The Big Construction Changes Happening in Disney World This Week

There are a lot of exciting projects happening in Disney World right now!

Cinderella Castle

The upcoming Tron coaster in Magic Kingdom, the massive transformation at EPCOT, and updates to several Disney World hotels. And if you’re excited to see progress on those projects, then we’ve got the full list of weekly construction updates from the Disney World property!

Magic Kingdom

Starting out at Magic Kingdom, there’s some new construction happening in the Space Mountain gift shop — Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. Many of the windows of the store are currently covered with black fabric.

Outside of the store, there are walls up blocking off some of the exterior. This construction isn’t affecting operations for Space Mountain or the gift shop currently.

And of course, we have to check in on construction over at the Tron coaster! Not much happened this week, but the outdoor area around the ride track continues to take shape.

Over on Main Street, U.S.A., there is some construction happening currently in front of Casey’s Corner. Part of the sidewalk is blocked off with construction walls, so just take note of that when trying to navigate the park.

EPCOT

Let’s move over to EPCOT! Here, the construction walls are still up for the massive park-wide transformation, but some things have changed this week.

EPCOT Transformation Construction

First of all, walls are FINALLY down around Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind! The ride opens up next month and is currently offering Cast Member previews. Unfortunately, guests without previews still can’t get close to the building at this time, as Disney has some of the walkways blocked off.

No more walls!

In World Celebration, work continues on the former Guest Relations building. Some construction equipment was out there this week, and walls are still preventing guests from heading in this direction.

But the biggest news from EPCOT this week was the soft opening of Connections Cafe and Eatery! Construction walls came down around parts of the building so that guests could step inside a week early and try out the food at the restaurant, as well as get their Starbucks coffee fix.

Finally, in World Showcase we noticed some updates happening on the tower in the Italy Pavilion. It looks like Disney is in the process of repainting the outside.

Hollywood Studios

Not much is happening construction-wise at Hollywood Studios, except for the continued updates to the gift shop at Toy Story Mania. Guests are still routed around the outside of the building as they exit the ride, as the hallway that you typically walk through remains closed.

Disney Springs

And last but certainly not least, we have a big update on Salt & Straw in Disney Springs — it’s officially open! Next time you’re in this area, make sure to stop by and try out one of their many unique ice cream flavors.
