High Speed Train to Disney World Hits a Major Milestone

Transportation is arguably one of the most important factors to consider when planning a vacation to Florida. Since Disney’s Magical Express transportation service ended in early 2022, Orlando began promoting several other airport transportation options, including Mears Connect, The Sunshine Flyer, and more. Eventually, Florida will also offer transportation via Brightline’s high-speed train service, though the project is still in development.

While we wait for the high-speed train to begin service through Florida (including a stop near Disney Springs), let’s check in on the Brightline construction progress!

Back in February, Brightline announced that the first major construction zone on the West Palm Beach to Orlando International Airport route was complete. This stretch of track included a 3.5-mile-long section on Brightline’s corridor that leads to the Orlando International Airport. Since then, it seems as though the project has continued to move forward.

Construction on Brightline’s extension project reached 75% completion, according to information obtained from the Orlando Business Journal. The construction efforts currently span multiple segments of track, and the project is expected to be completed later in 2022.

Keep in mind that although the project is set to finish up in late 2022, the actual service cannot begin until all safety testing is complete, according to the Orlando Business Journal. Further, the separate Disney Springs line is still a long way from completion.

The next big milestone on the horizon for Brightline will be the completion of its “$100 million 135,805-square-foot vehicle maintenance facility and infrastructure around [it],” which is close to wrapping up, according to the Orlando Business Journal. We’ll keep our eyes out for more updates!

  1. It would be great if Disney would build a themed train depot (a la MK Railway station) with convenient transfers to it’s resorts. The challenge is where to locate it.

  2. I can’t wait for the Brightline Orlando connection to be complete! I will most certainly be taking the train often to go to Disney!

  3. I wish web sites wouldn’t post that a train will go to Disney. It will have a stop near Disney Springs. Inconvenient to schlep you luggage and family on a train, only to have to transfer to other options to get to your resort. Not to mention the route will not be direct from MCO to DS, but will loop through Orlando.
