Prepare to Pay More for Your Lyft Ride to Disney World

Rideshares, a convenient way to get around Disney World, have become more important than ever now that the Magical Express is no more.

Uber is about to get more expensive.

Uber and Lyft have become a good way to get from the Orlando Airport to your Disney World hotel, even though the ride comes at a cost Magical Express riders aren’t used to. But there’s news today that those rideshares are getting even more expensive.

According to CNBC, Lyft has announced that it will add a new surcharge to each ride — following in the footsteps of Uber, which made a similar announcement over the weekend.

The culprit is gas prices. Uber and Lyft say that their drivers will receive the extra fee to make up for the pain many of them are feeling at the pump. The national average price per gallon is currently $4.33, according to AAA. That’s 34 percent higher than a year ago.

While Lyft has not announced many details yet, Uber says its extra gas surcharge will start on March 16th, and will add $0.45 to $0.55 to each ride. Both Lyft and Uber are calling the extra fee a “temporary surcharge.”
