Just How Busy is Orlando’s Airport? The Latest Numbers Might Surprise You!

The airport can be a nightmare sometimes! If all goes according to plan, you might breeze through security in no time, but long lines, flight delays, or a traffic jam might leave you in a frenzy!

Spring break is right around the corner, and if the recent crowds we’ve been seeing in Disney World are any indication, expect some major crowds at the airport!

According to a story by the local ABC news organization in Orlando, The Transportation Security Administration reported that the Orlando International Airport was the busiest airport in the US between February 26th-February 27th, 2022.

The Orlando Airport is breaking records!

The airport was recently listed within the top 10 busiest airports in America, further cementing MCO’s title as a high-volume airport.

The Orlando Airport is pretty big!

The TSA stated that MCO saw over 78,287 passengers on the last Saturday in February (February 26th). On that day, MCO was actually the busiest airport in the nation for departures. During the same day just one year ago, the airport had only 40,577 passengers. In total for the weekend, the airport experienced an 80% increase in guests, according to WFTV 9.

WFTV 9 reported that on Sunday, February 27th, the airport had over 74,772 passengers, up from 44,642 passengers in 2021. This year, MCO was the nation’s 4th busiest airport on Sunday the 27th. According to WFTV 9, this weekend was “the busiest in the COVID-19 era.”

There’s always something going on in the airport!

In total, WFTV 9 stated that the Orlando International Airport saw a total of 40.3 million passengers in 2021. With the record-breaking crowds this year, that number will likely increase in 2022.

Make sure to arrive at the airport early!

Though significant, the airport is still reporting lower numbers than before the pandemic. The Orlando International Airport’s current record is 90,804 passengers, and that record was set on March 16th of 2019, according to WFTV 9.
