Lately, we’ve seen some lesser-known characters popping more around Disney, which got us thinking — there are some Disney movies we’d really like to see represented more in the parks!

While it has been cool to wave to Jiminy Cricket in Magic Kingdom, and lately to have spotted some animal friends popping up merchandise, we wouldn’t complain about seeing these older Disney films have more presence in the parks.
For starters, where’s the love for the 80s and 90s?? Sure, there are some films regarded as classics that came out during this time, like Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Lion King, and Aladdin.

BUT what about all the other musical movies Disney made during these decades that get totally overlooked? We definitely don’t see Hunchback of Notre Dame or Hercules. Of course, more recently Oliver & Company and Fox and the Hound have made a return with the Disney pets trend.

Hercules
First off, Hercules. This movie should be considered a classic. A great story, a fabulous villain, and how could anyone forget: an AMAZING soundtrack! We’d love to be grooving to Hercules more in the parks, and even get to meet more of the characters. Maybe if we ever get that Greece Pavillion in EPCOT🤞

Hunchback of Notre Dame
We saw some merchandise celebrating the decades last year which featured a few unique characters, and also spotted a line of Hercules and Hunchback of Notre Dame clothes BUT we want more! Why can’t we see Esmeralda in the parks? OR bring back the Hunchback stage show? We’re not asking for much!

The Great Mouse Detective or Black Cauldron
Of course, there are also movies we never hear about like The Great Mouse Detective or Black Cauldron. Why these were made in the ~dark days~ of Disney, they’re still pretty good films! The Great Mouse Detective features a bar full of singing rats and a fabulous villain song — plus the technology used in this movie paved the way for future Disney movies that get WAY more love.

We’re not saying we need a Basil meet and greet, but it would be fun to see this movie get more attention — or to at least hear some of the songs in the park! Great Mouse Detective may have a spookier theme, but one movie on this list still has it beat.

First off, we really thought Disney had all but forgotten this movie until they released a magic band for its anniversary last year. That is one of the very few pieces of Black Cauldron merch we’ve ever laid eyes on. This is probably the weirdest movie on the list, but hey — it has its fans, and who doesn’t want to see their favorite Disney movie get more representation?

Fox and the Hound
Even though Copper and Todd have been popping up more, we wouldn’t complain about seeing these two more often. Fox and the Hound is a tear-jerker, but it’s also a sweet story of friendship and growing up.

If you love those videos of unlikely animal friends that pop up on Facebook, this is essentially the same thing in an animated feature! We’d love to see these best friends get a little more love — but maybe separate from their other Disney animal pals.

Oliver & Company
Speaking of animal pals (and great soundtracks) we’ve got to mention Oliver & Company — seriously, how do we not talk about Billy Joel doing a Disney movie more often?

This movie is based on the classic story of Oliver Twist — with a twist! Oliver and his canine pals face several capers, all against the backdrop of New York City. While we aren’t going to pick favorites, this is definitely an underrated animal flick, and if you hadn’t noticed — we’re suckers for some good music!

If you didn’t grow in the 80s or 90s, maybe you aren’t as attached to some of these low-key bops that tend to fly under Disney’s radar. However, if you’re a subscriber to Disney+. they’re all right there if you want to take a watch and see what you’re missing out on!

Which underrated movie do YOU wish was in the parks more? Let us know in the comments!
I’m not sure why everyone is all Frozen crazy, but these three movies are all better princess movies than Frozen and highly underrated:
– The Princess and the Frog
– Tangled
– Enchanted
Had to be said.
