NEWS: Orlando Could Extend Its Outdoor Dining Permit at Local Restaurants

A trip to Disney World may include a lot of time to go restaurant hopping around the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs!

Just beyond the theme parks, Orlando itself has plenty of restaurants to offer visitors. Whether you’re heading to White Castle, Portillo’s, or beyond, there are plenty of off-site dining locations your whole family will enjoy. But, they could be seeing a big change sometime soon!

According to Click Orlando News, the Orlando City Commission will be meeting on Monday, July 19th at 2PM to discuss extending outdoor dining space. As a health and safety precaution during the pandemic, restaurants were able to use parking spaces as additional socially distanced business locations.

While there is a possibility the city will halt this practice, the Orlando City Commission will talk about a three-year extension of the Temporary Use Permit Parklet Program as well. Maxine Earheart, a local business owner, noted that the city planning department told her that they would do their best to help make these helpful structures permanent. She said, “They have a grant program for that and that can get a little pricey. They also have a main street grant program that it’s my understanding can help us with beautification of the property.”

Along with many of the visitors who still wish to be safe when they are visiting dining locations, Earheart stated that many of the city officials agreed with the continuance of the outdoor dining extension. She continued that “It’s my understanding the city is concerned about safety. As they should be, and so by asking us to meet with them and get permits, they are able to decide what can stay and what has to go.”
