NEWS: California Health Official Recommends “Reconsidering” Travel to Florida

Travel in the U.S. has been on the rise since the COVID-19 vaccine became widely available in the country. But, some states, including Florida, have been seeing a rise in their infection rates.

Recently, the Orange County Mayor recommended that all individuals resume wearing masks while indoors, regardless of their vaccination status due to the increase in cases. And, now a health official is warning travelers looking to visit Florida.

According to MSN, Los Angeles County health officer, Dr. Munu Davis, has recommended that residents “reconsider traveling to places where the seven-day COVID-19 case rates are increasingly high.” This includes states like Florida, Nevada, Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisana.

Recently, Orange County (where Disney World is located) has reported an average of 135.1 weekly cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents, placing it in the category of having “high” rates of community transmission. And, other states included in Dr. Davis’ suggestion are reporting similar numbers, which are about four to seven times higher than those in California.

Currently, no indoor mask mandates have been reinstated in Florida or at Disney World, but many doctors are recommending that “more caution should be taken when community transmission rates are high” like they are in the state currently.
