Whether this is the first time you’re hearing about them or you haven’t thought about watching them in years…

…let’s dust the cobwebs off ten obscure Disney films — and the best part is that they’re all available to watch on Disney+!

TRON

You may have seen the 2010 remake or heard about the highly anticipated TRON Lightcycle Run roller coaster coming to Magic Kingdom, but have you ever checked out the original 1982 science fiction film? The original Tron was one-of-a-kind when it was first released, and although watching it in 2021 might feel like you’re watching someone’s bizarre computer class project, there’s no denying that this film challenged what a science fiction film could look like!

James and the Giant Peach

If you grew up in the 90’s, you may be pretty familiar with this next film! James and the Giant Peach was originally released in 1996 and was one of the first feature-length films to use stop-motion animation. The film had an overall positive reception, and although it has faded to the background of animated Disney films, it remains a classic to this day!

The Black Cauldron

This next film may be blocked out of many of our memories thanks to how it may have scared us all as kids! The Black Cauldron features some impressive feats in animation, given that it came out in 1985. However, its complex story and dark themes made it a bit of a turn-off to many family audiences, and ultimately the film flopped. If you’re feeling a little brave, check it out on Disney+!

The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes

OK, the name alone should convince you to check out this next film. The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes stars a young Kurt Russel and was released in 1969. Any movie that was released in the 1960’s and focuses on computers is worth a watch! The film centers around a young student who attends a small college that cannot afford a computer — and remember, computers in the 1960’s were HUGE! A remake of the film came out in 1995.

If you want to know how well it was received, just know that it was reportedly one of three films that critic Gene Siskel walked out on during his career.

  1. You left out the “rarest” of all – Condorman. It falls into the “so bad it’s good” category.

  2. Some of these movies are actually classics, some of them are just really bad movies!!!! I was never a fan of the Tron movie and those horrible Boogedy movies weren’t very good!!! Kazaam was absolutely dreadful!!! But the movies from the classic movies with Hayley Mills, Dean Jones, and Kurt Russel are hidden Disney Classics!!! They are really good movie but just aren’t as well known as some of the more beloved Disney classics!!!
