NEWS: Walt Disney CEO Says ‘Black Widow’ Theater Release Will Be a “Last Minute Call”

If we could choose one word for how The Walt Disney Company has responded to the changing dynamics over the past year it would be “flexibility.”

From making the decision to close all Disney theme parks one year ago to adapting health and safety measures to enable guests to return back to the parks, flexibility has been a must. And, a lot of Disney fans are focused on the decisions Disney is making outside of the theme parks — where (and when) highly anticipated films will be released.

Currently, Marvel’s Black Widow is set to release in theaters on May 7th. It’s been a longer wait than fans originally anticipated (as the date was pushed back from November 6th, 2020), and it is still unclear exactly where the movie will debut.

In an interview that Bloomberg hosted with The Walt Disney Company CEO, Bob Chapek, he revealed that they are planning for Black Widow to be released in theaters but will make the call “at the last minute.” His comments followed a discussion on the success of the direct-to-consumer platform, Disney+, which recently surpassed 100 million subscribers.

Chapek said that they will be monitoring “consumer behavior” and see how theatergoers respond to the reopening of theaters as more vaccines are distributed and the nation begins to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also shared that the theatrical releases are a great way to build the franchise, but believes “that is not the only way.” So, for now, fans can plan to see the movie release on May 7th in theaters. 1. I really miss going to the movie theaters. I hope they release this movie to the movie theaters. I haven’t got to see a movie at the movie theater in over a year. That is really hard for a hardcore movie buff like me. I cannot wait for this movie!!!!!!!!!!
