A new update regarding the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine has recently been announced.

Major retailers are to receive doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in a partnership with the White House. This new update is a push to expand the nation’s vaccination efforts and it will go into effect next week.
Popular stores will be administering the vaccine within 22 states, including Florida, in partnership with the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel. Walmart and Sam’s Club are among the locations to receive the vaccine doses.

These shipments will begin next week, and vaccinations are anticipated to begin towards the end of the week. Right now, it’s unclear how many doses of vaccine each store will receive, but vaccinations will be available on an appointment basis for those who are eligible, according to Walmart.

Other retailers involved in the plan include CVS, Walgreens, Publix, Kroger, Costco, Winn–Dixie, and more. However, CVS and Walgreens will not have vaccines available in Florida during the program’s first phase. These stores have yet to share many additional details about their initial distribution plans. The White House shared that not every retailer involved in the program will have vaccines to distribute in every state during its beginning phases.

This program is expected to deliver 1 million doses of vaccines per week directly to pharmacies, in addition to the vaccines already being distributed elsewhere throughout the states. The retailers involved in the partnership represent over 40,000 pharmacy locations across the country, maximizing accessibility.

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings expressed, “It is good news to hear that there will be a significant increase of COVID-19 vaccine available to the American people. I look forward to hearing more about the detailed plan of how the retail pharmacies and grocers will aid in the inoculations”

The distribution of vaccine doses through this program will gradually expand as the supply becomes available. Check back with us for more updates about this program.
