20 Best Star Wars Announcements from 2020!

It’s been the year of Star Wars news with movies, video games, and TV shows.

And, it might seem like it’s all pretty hard to keep up with right now! That’s why we narrowed it all down to 19 of the absolute BEST Star Wars announcements that we got this past year!

The Clone Wars Finale

Over the course of 12 years and 7 seasons, The Clone Wars came to its incredible ending on May the 4th (how fitting!). While Ahoska explored the lower levels of Coruscant to understand her place in the Force, met up with Bo-Katan, reunited with Anakin Skywalker, and battled Maul.

But, Rex and Ahsoka discovered Emperor Palpatine’s plan to turn the clone troopers against the Jedi and one another, leaving the Star Wars universe open to new stories.

Star Wars: Squadrons Video Game

This past summer, Disney and Lucasfilm revealed that Star Wars: Squadrons would be coming in October 2020.

And, the video game has been a hit with fans as they go through events that take place after the Return of the Jedi with numerous modes, locations, and more content that center everyone in the middle of their own galactic adventure!

Empire Strikes Back’s 40th Anniversary

As the famous Star Wars movie hit its 40th anniversary, Disney has been celebrating the Empire Strikes Back with merchandise, a special showing in theaters, and more!

And, it only seems feeling that 40 years later, a whole bunch of new shows were announced to fans to further expand the universe.

Rise of the Resistance’s Grand Opening in Disneyland

Disney World may have seen the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction open in December 2019, but the Disneyland version of the Rise of the Resistance made its debut in January 2020 to guests!

And, we can’t wait to be able to hop back on the attraction sometime soon whenever Disneyland re-opens to everyone.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

When Obi-Wan Kenobi debuts on Disney+, you will be able to watch Obi-Wan and Darth Vader face off once again! Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen will be reprising their roles from the prequels in a series set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith. The show will be directed by Deborah Chow, who has also helmed some episodes of The Mandalorian.

Rangers of the New Republic

Speaking of The Mandalorian, the Rangers of the New Republic will take place within the same timeline as the formerly mentioned show…

Ahsoka

….while Ahsoka also takes place within the same timeline! Now that we’ve seen Rosario Dawson star as Ahsoka in the second season of The Mandalorian, she will be returning as the ex-Jedi in her own title series.

Both of these shows will come from John Favreau and Dave Filoni in a “climactic story event,” starting on Christmas 2021.

Rogue Squadron

While there haven’t been many details released about Rogue Squadron, we do know that Patty Jenkins will be helming the project as the director! And, since she helped to create Wonder Woman, we know it’s going to be AMAZING.

Andor

We have been SUPER hyped about the new Rouge One series coming to Disney+. Based on Cassian Andor’s story during the formation of the Rebellion, Andor will debut in 2022 with a 12-episode series.

On top of Diego Luna reprising his role as Cassian, the cast will include Adria Arjona,  Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma. Some episodes are also set to be directed by Black Mirror director Toby Haynes.

Visions

The original show Star Wars: Visions will be streaming in 2021 with a Japanese anime-style animation…

…as Lando will share more stories from Lando Calrissian’s life in development by filmmaker Justin Simien…

The Acolyte

…along with The Acolyte that will take place in the final days of the High Republic as it will “take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers,” according to Disney!

A Droid Story

Your favorite droids are also hopping back into action during A Droid Story as R2-D2 and C-3PO guide a brand NEW hero on an epic adventure across the galaxy!

The Bad Batch

After The Clone Wars has ended, The Bad Batch will follow a group as they infiltrate enemy lines to save Clone Trooper Echo. As the aftermath of Order 66 will affect life after The Clone War, a unique squad of clones from the Clone Army will take on mercenary missions together.

And, Ming-Na Wen, who portrays Fennec Shand, will be reprising her character as a voice in the Disney+ show.

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special

Just in time for Christmas, The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special has arrived to take fans on a journey with Rey and Finn through some of their best moments in the Skywalker Saga.

At the end of the most recent season of The Mandalorian, Boba Fett returned as the upcoming series The Book of Boba Fett was announced. The show will be set in the timeline of The Mandalorian, starring Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen with executive producers Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Robert Rodriguez.

Baby Yoda Gets a Name

YES! Baby Yoda is officially named as Grogu (though, let’s be real, we are still calling him Baby Yoda). At the end of season two, Luke Skywalker arrives to train Baby Yoda in the ways of the Force.
