Universal Orlando has been a blast recently with all the holiday entertainment, snacks, and even VIP tours!
Recently we have noticed that the wait times have gotten a bit longer as more crowds return during the holiday season. While we’ve seen the parks’ capacity recently increase in Disney World, it looks like Universal has quietly done the same.
In a virtual Comcast Corporation meeting, the CEO of NBCUniversal Jeff Shell confirmed that Universal Orlando has increased its capacity to 35% in its parks. While we last heard that the parks were resting at 25% in September, the increase is a little more clear now around the holidays as the parks continue to hit capacity with more guests.
When he was asked about when the theme parks would return to “normal,” Shell stated that “we are operating in Orlando, for example, at about 35% capacity when you — there’s no hard and fast rule. But when you factor in all the distancing and the protocol, you really can’t put more than 35%. And what’s encouraging is in the last couple of weeks, we’ve been bumping up against that 35% on a number of occasions.
So even with no people flying from overseas, which is a big chunk of our business traditionally, even with a big decline in people flying from across the country coming to Florida, so largely driven by local and drive-in audiences, we’re kind of hitting that capacity.”
He went on to state that getting the theme parks back to normal depends on international travel, vaccines, the numbers during the health crisis, and when the distancing and other safety guidelines will start to be less restrictive. However, there is no certainty when that will be.
As Universal Orlando continues to make changes in its parks, we’ll be sure to update you on everything you need to know!
