NEWS: 2021 Disney World Marathon Weekend and Princess Half Marathon Will Be Turned Into Virtual Events

Many runDisney events have been canceled or transitioned to virtual races due to the global health crisis.

So far, the 2020 Star Wars Rival Run Weekend was canceled and the Wine and Dine Half Marathon was converted into a virtual race. Disney has recently announced that the 2021 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend and the 2021 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend will also be canceled and turned into virtual events.

Participants will have the option to refund their race fees. Alternatively, those with a U.S. Mailing Address can choose to convert their registration to the virtual event, which can be done from home. Information will be sent to pre-registered runners beginning September 23rd and registration for the virtual event will open on September 24th at 10AM.

Refunds will be processed by mid-November, 2020 to the participant’s original form of payment. If you no longer have your original form of payment, contact Disney by October 7th and you will be refunded via a check or Disney Gift Card. Refunds can be applied to registration fees, processing fees, and any commemorative merchandise. Runners without a valid U.S. address are not eligible for the virtual option.

Participants who are eligible to partake in the virtual race will receive the following:

  • Race distance medal(s)
  • Option of event tech shirt(s)
  • Digital Bib and finisher certificate
  • Digital Toolkit including start/finish line and mile markers
  • Digital Goody Bag
  • Virtual playlist
  • A Digital Disney Gift Card for select races

Eligible participants who already have received a refund for their registration may still register to participate in the virtual race option.

Disney also noted the 2021 Castaway Cay Challenge will transition to a virtual event, even though the Disney Dream cruise is currently set to sail. And, guests who purchased the Club runDisney membership will receive a second year of membership at no charge.

As for future races, Disney states that they are “looking at every aspect of the runDisney experience and making decisions with the safety and well-being of our athletes, volunteers, Cast Members and Guests at the forefront of our planning.” We’ll continue to update you on future runDisney events.
