Review of Liberty Tree Tavern Dinner

My family dined here for the third time in January 2013. It's no longer a character meal as it was in '05 & '08 for our first two trips, but we still enjoyed dinner here.
The food is served family style, and it was excellent! The salad came out first, and it was very refreshing after a day of popcorn and Mickey bars. The meat platters and sides followed, and there was plenty to go around. The meats were hot and juicy -- we were impressed that nothing was dried out. The mashed potatoes and mac n' cheese were a huge hit, and the root veggie medley was really good too!
Our server was great. He refilled our drinks regularly before we ever asked for them. There's plenty of seating here too, and they took us right on time. Dining here has become a tradition for us. I'm sure we'll be back here again and again.

Pros:

Food, service, seated on time

Cons:

In my opinion, this place is overrated. We stopped here for hot dogs one night while watching the nightly parade. Although the hot dogs weren't bad, the prices were very high. I can't justify eating here again, and even the kids agreed with me.

Pros:

Decent food

Cons:

Price

We used our DDP snack credits to grab breakfast here twice in January. The pastries are huge and delicious. This was a good alternative to a full breakfast.
We grabbed a spot on the stone wall outside. Some seating would be a nice addition to this shop.

Pros:

Good pastries

Cons:

No seating

We surprised our daughter with a trip to DL for her 16th birthday. She thought we were headed to WDW.

The experience flying in to LAX was very interesting. Anyone who has flown into Orlando (MCO)knows that the lower floor pretty much belongs to WDW and Magical Express. We were pointed to a bench on the sidewalk and told to wait for DL Magic Express. No waving casting members ~ just "sit there". Thankfully a large purple DL bus pulled up after about 15 mins and we gladly loaded!

It was nice to pull into HoJo after the bus journey of a little less than an hour. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We used a travel agent and all our paperwork was in order. The room we were given was spacious and clean. We would definitely stay there again. I think January is off-season for DL so it was pretty quiet. There were folks swimming! Georgians don't swim in the winter so we just kept walking...

The difference between DL and WDW transportation is also different in that we literally "walked" into main gate and all three choices lay right before us... straight ahead Downtown, to the left DCA, and to the right DL. Amazing! We loved that ~ as you get very tired of waiting for buses at WDW and any trip into the parks takes an hour or so of waiting and riding. The only negative - we played so hard during the day that the walk home was moderate. It reminded me of staying in a Value resort at WDW and getting back to your bus stop only to have a half mile to walk to your room in the resort. 🙂 It's really not that bad - you're just tired of walking!

We LOVED Mimi's (ate there twice). We also ate McDs for breakfast both mornings for convenience and budget. We ate Quiznos. We ate one counter meal in the park. We stopped in to a little family market for water and sodas. I brought snacks with us from home. You definitely have plenty of options in all price ranges so that you can stay on target money-wise.

We flew out of LAX early on Sunday morning. We had to sit out on a bench to wait for our van (non-magical because of time of departure). I would recommend not flying out too early. That was a little unnerving to be out on the dark street so early in the morning. Not HoJos fault -the van we chose was running behind and we shouldn't have been out there so long.

I would highly recommend HoJo - just keep in mind the walk at the end of the day is moderate. We will try one a little closer this next trip but I think we would be happy to return to HoJo if we aren't satisfied.

Pros:

spacious room, location, clean, safe

Cons:

moderate walk after a long day

Review of Disney Dining Plan

We got to take advantage of the free dining plan during our last trip, and it saved us a substantial amount of money.
The dining plan works very well for us. We spend over a week in Disney, so we treat the trip more like a marathon than a sprint. So, we like to take our time and enjoy table service meals. The character meal experiences are wonderful and save us from standing in line to meet characters in the parks. Also, we don't get burned out on all counter service meals which is probably how we'd handle it if we didn't have the DDP. We really enjoy that we get to have desserts with our meals, and we find it more enjoyable that we don't have to constantly be worrying about how much money we have with us to cover meals. The DDP is convenient for us that way.
We use snack credits for pastries and muffins for some of our breakfasts.
We have purchased the DDP three times now, and my husband swears we'll never do it any other way. 2 meals and 1 snack per day is plenty of food for us. Our family was never hungry!

Pros:

Convenience, Try lots of different restaurants

Cons:

Table service meals take time

We grabbed an early dinner here on our DDP in January 2013. We were in Fantasyland and didn't want to walk any further, so we stopped here. We found seating outside and had a pleasant rest here under the umbrellas.
The pizzas were good and so were the desserts. This was a nice alternative to the usual fast food burgers and fries.

Pros:

Good flatbread pizza, Nice location

My family of 8 dined here for the second time in January 2013. We had a fantastic time here! The food was excellent, and there was plenty of it. All of the meat was cooked perfectly. The bread pudding was the best I've ever had. The servers were wonderful.
It was a nice surprise to see that our table was right by the window because we had a perfect view of the Magic Kingdom's fireworks at 8 pm. The restaurant even pipes in the music from the fireworks so that you're hearing the same thing you would hear if you were watching them from Main Street.
We will dine here again and again!

Food, atmosphere

After reading all the glowing reviews I felt let down by the show and the food. The show was not as good as the reviews I read and the food was not as good either. The show was ok not great and the food was nothing special. The chicken was dry and the ribs were too syrupy. I did not think this was worth the money and we sat 15 feet from the stage. Will not go again.

Pros:

Dinner and a show

Cons:

not as good as the reviews

I've been to WDW many times and always wanted to try this steak place. Should have saved our money. Service was good, food is not. I had a ceaser salad($10.00)had about 10-12 leaves on the plate. Poutine fries that the waitress recommended smelled and tasted bad. My husband's steak wasn't any better than what he can cook at home. Best thing we had was the bread, tasted like a soft pretzel.

Pros:

Waitress

Cons:

Review of Wilderness Lodge (Deluxe Resort)

Our first time at the Lodge and it's soooo nice! I hope to be able to stay there again. We have stayed in the value and the moderate resorts and this place blows them out of the water! Quite and relaxing place. Only disappointment was that the 6th floor balcony is a wall and not a rail so you have to stand up to see the view. We had a courtyard view.

We took our bikes this year and was able to ride them to Ft. Wilderness Campground where we ate breakfast one morning.(de-lish) We rode about 10 miles just looking around the campground.

You can see the light parade from the beach at night.

Buses were good and I enjoyed that you can take the boat to Magic Kingdom.

Roaring Fork was a great place to grab a quick bite.

Pros:

Room, decorations, lots to do.

Cons:

6th floor balcony, boat horn
