Start your engines, because we’re heading to Piston Peak National Park!

The new Cars land coming to Magic Kingdom will be loosely based on Rocky Mountain National Park. Disney recently shared MORE about this exciting new part of Frontierland, but we couldn’t help but notice that something looks different about the concept art.
The NEW Piston Peak area of Frontierland will be fully Cars themed, and Disney Imagineers recently shared some exciting details about the latest addition to Magic Kingdom, including a new map of the land. But, if you ask us, something about the concept art looks different!

You can see in the image below — which was one of the original pieces of concept art Disney released — that there is one large, piston-shaped rock formation at the top of the mountain here. Yep, that’s Piston Peak. From this view, it definitely looks like it stands tall and could be seen from anywhere in Frontierland, heck, maybe even the rest of Magic Kingdom.

But, in this new map, there isn’t just one Piston Peak — there are three snowy peaks at the top of this mountain. Imagineers also shared that sightlines are at the top of their minds throughout this design, and they confirmed that you’ll only be able to see these snowy peaks from the ride itself, and not from the land surrounding it. The pistons will also be a pass-through element you can experience when you’re on the ride.

Piston Peak is heavily based on the National Parks, as expected for Frontierland, which is described as a land to celebrate American wilderness. In particular, the Rocky Mountain National Park serves as the main inspiration for the team working on this at Disney.

Disney is also pulling inspiration from existing buildings and attractions, including Wilderness Lodge and Grizzly Peak at Disney California Adventure. The new area will be home to two rides: one will be a rally race-type attraction, while the other will be a family ride.

The architecture in Piston Peak will include several “car-ified” elements. That includes lower windows so that cars can see out of them, entrances and buildings that are big enough for cars to fit, and using found materials like old wagon wheels in the buildings. After all, this is supposed to be where these characters live!

We can’t wait to learn more about the new Cars area coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom! We’ll be on the lookout for more details. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for the latest news and more.
