A veritable smorgasbord of new restaurants has been announced for Downtown Disney.

The Disneyland Resort’s Downtown Disney district has been a haven for Anaheim foodies and theme park visitors alike since it first opened in 2001. Over the last two decades, many restaurants have come and gone through the area, with new and exciting additions seemingly always coming through. Disney has just announced several more new culinary experiences coming to the shopping district in the future!
The first of the major additions detailed by Disney are three distinct dining concepts from Carlos Gaytán, Mexico’s first MICHELIN-starred chef: Paseo, Céntrico, and Tiendita.

Paseo will see Gaytán combine his deep love for the dishes of his Mexican heritage with “French culinary style and technique.” Some of the items on the menu will include ceviches, Mama’s cochinita pibil (roasted marinated pork), lamb barbacoa and mejillones (mussels).

Design-wise, the restaurant will feature a massive spiral staircase that leads to a “show-stopping dining room and bar area lined with rich woods, tiles, textures, leathers and custom accents that celebrate Mexico’s craftsmanship culture. An extended upper patio will offer exceptional new views of the district!”
Céntrico will be an outdoor courtyard bar and restaurant with menu offerings including quesabirrias, chicken enchiladas, tlayuda, and Gaytán’s take on Caesar salad.

According to Disney, the space will serve as an “energetic, central gathering place serving upscale Mexican cuisine and tequila-based cocktails. Its open, airy spaces designed with custom wood elements and lush greenery will welcome you into its outdoor canopy.”

Finally, Tiendita will serve as a celebration of traditional Mexican street foods. Visitors using self-order kiosks will be able to grab a variety of staples including “esquites (roasted corn), fish tacos, ice cream- stuffed chocolate tacos, and breakfast favorites like chorizo breakfast burritos and chilaquiles (marinated tortilla chips with egg.”

Paseo, Céntrico, and Tiendita are all scheduled to open in May.
In addition to Gaytán’s trio of restaurants, this summer will also see the opening of Din Tai Fung. The Downtown Disney outpost of the MICHELIN-awarded Taiwanese restaurant brand will offer dishes including soup dumplings, wontons, noodles, steamed buns, bok choy, and pork chop fried rice, all served family style.

Disney also announced that a “steakhouse restaurant and an adjacent barbecue eatery” will be coming to Downtown Disney, occupying the space that was once home to Tortilla Joe’s. No further details were given at this time.
Finally, Marceline’s Confectionery is being reworked and expanded into a “reimagined confection experience featuring your favorite treats and fun new tasty offerings!” While the work is going on, a Marceline cart will be available for those looking for “caramel apples, churro toffee and other handcrafted goodies.” In addition, during the renovation, The Disney Dress Shop will be temporarily moved to the WonderGround Gallery location, while select items from WonderGround Gallery can be found in Disney Home.

With all these changes coming to Downtown Disney’s culinary collection, it looks to be a massive year for Disneyland foodies. Stay tuned to AllEars for more Downtown Disney updates.
