We’ve reached that point in Disney World where the crowd levels are reaching a peak.

And that’s to be expected! We’re right in between Christmas holidays and New Year’s when many people are on school and work breaks. So what better way to celebrate than going to Disney? However, there are some more problems you may need to worry about besides the crowds — multiple popular Disney World rides are currently down.
It’s never fun when a popular ride goes down, but it’s even worse when it’s on one of the most popular days of the year. Today, we’re not just talking about one or two Disney rides being down — no, as of 12PM, there were FIVE major rides down in Disney World all across the parks on December 30th, 2023:
- Expedition Everest
- Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
- Rise of the Resistance

As of 12:30PM, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure was back up and running, but the others were still down (and Cosmic Rewind hadn’t opened all day). When rides go down, especially in parks with fewer attractions, it often causes a ripple effect where nearby rides see a big increase in wait times, which is saying something since wait times are already high.

So what should you do when a ride you were in line for or planning to ride goes down? The first thing: don’t panic. Rides often come back up later in the day, and you can even chat with Cast Members outside the ride to see if they can tell you anything about when the ride may be back up.

If you had a Lightning Lane reservation for an attraction that closed, you’ll automatically get an experience redemption pass that can be used on most other rides. Or, you can save it in case the ride comes back up.

If you find that wait times are high all around, maybe find somewhere to sit with your group and come up with a new plan. Disney World is all about being flexible with your plans because you never know what might happen!
