Stop Everything. This Is the Single Best Thing We’ve Seen in Disney World ALL WEEK

When it comes to October, what do you think of?

It’s National Pumpkin Day!

You probably think of Halloween, especially if you’re in Disney World surrounded by Halloween decorations, visiting Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, and eating some spooky snacks. Well, October also brings National Pumpkin Month, and to celebrate, Disney did something sure to make you smile.

October 26th is National Pumpkin Day and to celebrate, some of Disney World’s animal nutritionists prepared some pumpkin snacks for some “monster” Galapagos tortoises at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The turtles in question are named Phantom, Dracula, Mummy, Frankenstein, Wolfman, and Creature — we told you they were monsters! They live on Discovery Island and if you’ve visited Animal Kingdom, you’ve probably even seen them before. But these turtles recently got to chow down on some pumpkins as a special treat. Believe it or not, pumpkins are healthy snacks for a variety of animal species (humans included!).

These turtles are herbivores, meaning they normally eat things like grass and other vegetation. But these pumpkins are a special treat for them.

Did you know that the animal nutritionists at Disney World prepare customized meals for more than 5,000 animals every day? Not only that, but they make sure that each meal offers the best nutrition for that particular animal. Overall, they serve over 10,000 pounds of food daily!

Also, tortoises aren’t the only ones who get to eat pumpkins — over 200 pumpkins have been delivered to animals across Disney World. So if you happen to visit Animal Kingdom, you might just see some animals eating those pumpkins.

Yes, before you ask, the nutritionists carved faces into the pumpkins to get the animals in the Halloween spirit.
