Disney World is a large place with a lot of people.

To keep things running smoothly, Disney puts rules in place — from what kinds of things you can bring into the park to how you are expected to treat those around you. Inevitably, some of these rules get broken from time to time. We asked our readers what the one rule everyone seems to break in the parks is, and they had a lot to say.
We asked our readers on Facebook what rule they see people breaking in Disney World most, and here’s what they said!
Line Cutting
The overwhelming response we got to this question was line cutting. Ok, this one might be less of a hard-written rule and more of an unspoken one, but it’s a big one!

We’ve all been there. It’s 95° and you’ve been waiting in line for an hour in an outdoor queue that just doesn’t seem to be moving. Next thing you know, the party of two ahead of you is actually a party of 8, which you find out as the stragglers squeeze their way past you to meet up with the rest of their friends.

What gives? It seems like this happens everywhere around Disney World, and our readers tend to agree. Suzanne mentioned that she understands if there’s a small kid that had to use the restroom mid-line, but these huge groups are another story!

It may seem like a no-brainer, but it needs to be said — cutting in line is unacceptable. This includes straight-up cutting in line, sneaking into Lightning Lane queues, and having someone hold a spot in line so that the rest of the party can skip ahead once they are close to the front.

Instead of having someone save a spot for the rest of your party, you have the option to purchase Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes to cut down on your wait time.

Selfie Sticks
Another rule that our readers noticed gets broken somewhat frequently is the selfie stick restriction. According to Disney, “Selfie sticks, hand-held extension poles for cameras or mobile devices, flags and banners are not allowed in any theme park, water park or Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.”

But our readers (and reporters) still notice these photography devices pop up in the parks from time to time.

Keep in mind that these rules are put in place as a safety measure, so it’s important to abide by them! A selfie stick could easily fall out of your hand and harm you, those around you, or an attraction. If used on rides, they could extend beyond the ride’s designated safety boundaries.
Smoking
Lastly, our readers have noticed that some guests break the no-smoking rule. According to Disney, its theme parks, water parks, and hotels are “smoke-free environments except for designated smoking areas.”

This applies to any type of smoking, including vaping. Unfortunately, some guests try to get sneaky with skirting this rule by finding quiet corners around the park or by doing it quickly in passing.

As of 2019, there are no longer designated areas within the parks. Instead, you’ll find them near the entrance.

Disney puts these rules in for the safety and comfort of their guests, so it’s important to act accordingly. Getting removed from the park isn’t worth trying to get away with these offenses.

Stroller size. Double wide strollers or the wagons some use can’t possibly be within the size limit Disney sets.
line cutting is prohibited and it is written in the park rules. the problem is guests don’t read it and disney doesn’t enforce it uniformly.
The line cutting is crazy. I’m luckily able to go to the parks on a pretty regular basis. Line cutting happens usually once or twice to me on a 5 hour visit. Especially in popular attraction queues. One person goes in and gets their place in line while the rest of their party gets snacks, drinks, and uses the the restroom. It’s gotten to the point where my friend and I make it difficult for people to pass and then they awkwardly say excuse me over and over until we move. But I haven’t ever confronted people because what good does that do: possible arguments, and then you look like a Karen for following the rules. Unfortunately Disney World has designed this problem. There’s way too much to do and see in a week, I can just see people freaking out throughout the parks and racing like rabid animals to be first in line. All because they feel like they’ll never get everything done. But that’s the whole point you never WILL get everything done. Even living here and I still haven’t been to every restaurant, seen every show, been to every Disney mini-golf. And new things happen and attractions open every year. Disney World wants you to come back again and again.
Wow I didn’t know about Disney getting rid of the Disney getting rid of the designated smoking areas and only having them by the entrance. I don’t see what was wrong with having them scattered around the park.
