If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, probably one of the biggest things you’re worried about is navigating Genie+.

The paid skip-the-line system was launched in fall 2021, and it has been met with a fair share of criticism, not only for its cost but for its complexity. Rules and tips for Genie+ seem to be changing constantly, but don’t worry — we’re here to keep you up to date! That’s why we’re sharing the biggest Disney Genie+ news from the past few weeks.
Genie+ SOLD OUT for the First Time
Since Genie+ launched, we’ve seen some pretty busy days in the parks. But the crowds for the combined holidays of Presidents Day weekend and Mardi Gras rank as some of the WORST. The parks were absolutely packed, and that meant that a ton of people bought Genie+.

In fact, so many people bought the service that it sold out for the first time ever in Disney World. We saw it sell out for the first time in Disneyland Resort last year, but it took nearly a year and a half for it to happen on the east coast. And then, it sold out TWO days in a row.

When this happens, sales will be paused in the My Disney Experience app until the following day. (It resets at midnight.) So it looks like if you’re traveling during a crowded time of the year, it might benefit you to purchase Genie+ earlier in the day — definitely before 7AM when Lightning Lanes first drop.
Genie+ Hit Record Prices
Along with the sold-out Genie+, we also saw record-high prices for the service. Genie+ starts at $15 per person, per day, but the price varies depending on anticipated demand, which means that it’ll be more expensive on busier days.

During Presidents Day weekend, Genie+ hit a whopping $29 per person. That means that for a family of four, you’d be paying more than $120 total for one day of using the service (if you add on tax). Even though the price indicates the demand, it’s still a little surprising that Genie+ sold out on such an expensive day.

We’ll continue to monitor the price each day and let you know if there are more pricey days to come.
Changes Are Coming Soon
And finally, we’ve got an update about something coming in the future for Genie+! Disney announced a while back that soon, anyone who buys Genie+ will also get complimentary PhotoPass photos taken at attractions. This means that you get your on-ride pictures included with your purchase!

It’s a change that makes the flexible cost a little more worth it, but we weren’t given a start date for when this policy would go into effect…until this week. Disney just announced that the ride photos will be included in your purchase starting March 20th. If you buy Genie+ for the day, you’ll be able to see the ride pictures in the My Disney Experience app and download them to your phone.

So there you go — some big things that you should be aware of if you’re visiting Disney World soon and planning to purchase Genie+. We expect to see some high prices on the service as we head into March and Spring Break season, so stay tuned for the updates!
