How to Get the MOST Out of Disney Genie+

Disney Genie+ has been available for about a month now, and we’ve learned a lot about the service.

Disney Genie

The paid replacement to the Disney Fastpass+ offering has had a mixed response from Disney fans. Some readers are not happy about the $15 per person, per day price tag. Disney announced, though, that a third of visiting guests have chosen to upgrade during their trip. If you’re considering Genie+, we’ve got some tips.

Here are THREE ways to get the MOST out of Disney Genie+!

You don’t have to buy Genie+ in advance!

Genie+ does not have to be bought before your park day. In fact, you can decide at any point during the day to upgrade to Genie+. You’re able to do so through the My Disney Experience app or by speaking to Guest Experience Cast Members.

The main bonus of purchasing in advance is that you’ll be able to book your first Lightning Lane at 7AM. When you’re planning a day in Disney’s Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom, Lightning Lanes can book up fast. Being able to book early could be the difference between you getting the Lightning Lanes you want or not.

Slinky Dog Dash

So if you’re going for a more popular attraction like Slinky Dog Dash, you’ll want to book in advance (starting at 12AM on the day you need it). But if you’re not sure you’ll need Genie+ on your EPCOT day, you can wait until you’re in the park. That way you know if the lines are long enough to warrant the cost.

Book your next Lightning Line as soon as you can!

You can book immediately after you scan into an attraction or after a two-hour cool down (whichever comes first). Book ASAP so that you get your money’s worth!

Lightning Lane

Remember, each Lightning Lane has two scan points. You’ll be able to book a new Lightning Lane after your scan the second time, so get ready to tap into your next Lightning Lane window before you hop on a ride.

Scanning into a Lightning Lane

If the Lightning Lane window you book is more than two hours in the future, you won’t have to wait until you can scan in. Instead, you’ll be able to book a new Lightning Lane on top of your existing one after a two-hour cooldown.

Pirates of the Caribbean Lightning Lane

For instance, if you book Slinky Dog Dash at 9:30AM for 2PM, you’ll be able to book another Lightning Lane at 11:30AM, even though you haven’t used Slinky Dog Dash. However the situation works out, make sure you’re booking as soon as you can!

If you pay for Genie+, you keep those AR filters for 45 days.

One of the less-talked-about perks of Genie+ is access to a bunch of Disney Augmented Reality filters. These are super silly and cute, and you don’t lose access to them after your park day!

If you want to be Genie here’s your chance!

In fact, you get to keep access to most of the filters (besides a few location-based ones) for 45 days! Keep using them to make sure you really get your money’s worth with Genie+.

  1. So far, I really haven’t seen anything helpful when you are not a rope drop person. We are not early risers. We stay until parks closes or later. I’d like to see how it works without rope dropping.

    1. I am a sleeper. My husband is usually up before me. Not so at Disney. Is it possible to NOT rope drop and still get value? I’d wake up for 7a though.

  2. After watching your Genie + videos, I understand how it works now. It would be helpful to me if you would film a “perfect day” in MK utilizing both Lightning Lanes and Molly’s brain so I can understand how to integrate it all together.
