NEWS: Disney Announces They Are Pausing All Business in Russia

While we often first think of Disney World or Disneyland whenever we hear “Disney” mentioned, the company actually expands far beyond these two resorts. There are the international Disney Parks, filming for Disney+ original series, movie releases, and more taking place all over the world.

And, because the Disney company spans the globe, we’ll often see Disney issue a response to or react to current events. For example, Disney recently announced that they would be pausing the theatrical release of new movies (like Pixar’s Turning Red) in Russia and now more changes are coming.

According to a statement released on The Walt Disney Company’s website, Disney will be “taking steps to pause all other businesses in Russia,” including “content and product licensing, Disney Cruise Line activities, National Geographic magazine and tours, local content productions and linear channels” in response to “Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.”

In the release, Disney notes that some of these activities will be paused immediately, while others (like “linear channels and some content and product licensing”) will take longer “given contractual complexities.”

Those who are current Disney employees living in Russia will remain employed during the pause and the company will “continue to work with our NGO partners to provide urgent aid and other much-needed assistance to refugees” in the meantime.
