California recently announced that on June 15th, it will move “beyond the Blueprint” and that the state’s economy will fully reopen. Since last year, this Blueprint has been the determining factor since last year how business sectors can operate during the pandemic.

But what will a fully reopen California economy look like? We’re starting to see new details emerge regarding which policies will still be in place, especially when it comes to what the state describes as “mega events.”
On Friday, California Department of Public Health released their “Beyond the Blueprint for Industry and Business Sectors” plan, which outlines several key features of exactly what June 15th will look like for many sectors across the state.

One of the highlights from this plan is the discussion around vaccine verification, which will be required for large indoor “mega events” and strongly recommended for large outdoor “mega events.” A negative COVID-19 test can also be provided at the time of entry. For indoor events, verification of full vaccination or a pre-entry negative COVID-19 test result will be required for all attendees.

A “mega event” is defined by the state as events with “crowds greater than 5,000 (indoors) and 10,000 (outdoors) attendees.” Examples of such indoor mega events include conventions, conferences, sporting events, and concerts. According to Orange County Register, California Department of Public Health officials confirmed that “California theme parks fall into the category of outdoor mega events with more than 10,000 participants or spectators.”

For all other sectors, operations will be able to resume as usual on June 15th. According to the plan released today, there will be no capacity restrictions as well as no physical distancing requirements. Masking requirements will align with the current CDPH guidance for face coverings, which the state has announced will fall in line with the CDC’s latest guidance on June 15th.

However, individual businesses may elect to keep their own stricter policies in place for the time being past June 15th. We’ll keep an eye on the developments coming out of California as we approach mid-June!
