Marvel, and Star Wars and Pixar — OH MY! We got SO much news from Disney’s Investor Day today.
Disney’s brands announced over 100 new titles today, from Mandalorian spin-offs to Walt Disney Animation’s 60th full-length feature film, and a new Pixar film called Lightyear to FOUR new Marvel series coming to Disney+!
During the Q&A portion of the presentation, Disney’s CFO Christine McCarthy also shared some interesting information about their over 86 million Disney+ subscribers.
McCarthy shared that while initially they predicted families would be their biggest subscribers, it turns out more adults WITHOUT kids are subscribed than those with kids.
That’s right, while Disney+ was initially intended for families, us “Childless Millennials” have taken over. (Ok, she didn’t say childless millennials, but…)
This isn’t an altogether shocking reveal when you think about it — the highest-rated and watched shows on the streaming service include The Mandalorian and Hamilton, neither of which are geared for families with children.
So it makes sense that many of the upcoming projects are targeted to older audiences — such as the new Marvel and Star Wars series, as well as Hocus Pocus 2, Sister Act 3, and a 3 Men and a Baby Reboot — basically 90’s kids’ dreams come true!
That said, Disney isn’t going to stop providing quality family entertainment anytime soon. Also shared today, were Disney+ original series featuring Princess Tiana and Moana, a new full length animated feature film Encanto, and that Tom Hanks will be starring in the live-action Pinocchio!
No matter what your age, I think it’s safe to say anyone can find quality content on Disney+ — especially when you consider Disney is planning on adding 100 new titles EVERY year to the streaming platform.
