EPCOT’s Flower and Garden Festival is one of my absolute favorite times of the year, and trust me, after going to Disney World every single day, that’s saying something.

This year, the festival runs from March 4th through June 1st, which means we have months of topiaries, outdoor kitchens, and Garden Rocks concerts ahead of us. But before you head over to EPCOT, let me save you some pain. I’ve made plenty of mistakes at this festival over the years, and I’m spilling all of them so you don’t have to repeat them.
I Treated It Like a Regular EPCOT Day
After going to Disney World every day, I’ll be the first to admit I got a little overconfident. I figured Flower and Garden was just EPCOT with some pretty flowers and extra snacks. I’d show up at my usual time, do my usual loop, and everything would be fine. (It was not fine.)

The festival completely transforms the park. The crowds are different, the layout feels different with all the outdoor kitchen booths set up around World Showcase, and the whole flow of the day requires a different strategy. I’d find myself hitting my favorite booths too late and watching them run out of popular items. I’d arrive at the America Gardens Theatre at my usual evening stroll time, only to find the concert already packed. I even missed entire sections of the festival because I defaulted to my normal EPCOT habits and just didn’t make it around to everything.

Flower and Garden deserves its own dedicated game plan. Give yourself more time than you think you need, map out the booths you want to prioritize, and go in knowing this is a special event (not just a Wednesday at EPCOT).
I Tried to Eat Everything Alone
This one hurt to admit. For years, I was convinced I needed my own full portion of every item I wanted to try. Family, I cannot stress this enough: share everything.

The outdoor kitchen portions are designed to be snack-sized, which means they’re actually perfect for splitting. When you share with your travel partner or a willing family member, you can hit twice as many booths without feeling like you need to be rolled back to your car. You also won’t be in a food coma by 2 PM, which means you’ll actually have room for a dining reservation later in the day. Learn from my mistakes. Sharing is the move.
I Didn’t Take the Garden Rocks Concert Seriously
Here’s an embarrassing one. A few years back, I figured I could just waltz up to the America Gardens Theatre whenever I felt like it and grab a great seat for a Garden Rocks concert. I was so wrong. I ended up standing on my tiptoes in the back, barely able to see the stage.

The Garden Rocks Concert Series brings in some genuinely great acts, and people show up early to claim their spots. My number one tip is to book a Garden Rocks Dining Package. You get a table service meal at a participating restaurant earlier in the day, and then you’re guaranteed a reserved seat at one of that evening’s three concert performances. No waiting in line for an hour, hoping there’s space. It’s one of the best values at the entire festival, and I wish I’d figured it out sooner.
I Treated It Like Just Any Other Food Festival
The food and drinks are incredible. I’m not going to pretend otherwise. But hyper-focusing on the outdoor kitchens means you might breeze right past what actually makes Flower and Garden special.

The topiaries scattered throughout EPCOT are breathtaking, and some years Disney absolutely outdoes itself with the character designs. Beyond that, don’t sleep on the Butterfly Landing.

It’s a walk-through garden filled with live butterflies, beautiful blooms, and a peaceful energy that feels completely different from the rest of the park. Every time I slow down and actually spend time there, I remember why this festival has such a devoted following. It’s not just the food. It’s the whole atmosphere.
I Completely Ignored the Scavenger Hunt
This one genuinely surprises people when I bring it up. For years, I walked right past Spike’s Pollen-Nation Exploration without a second thought. I was so locked in on food booths that it didn’t even register.

Here’s how it works: you pick up a scavenger hunt map and sticker sheet at select merchandise locations for $11.99 plus tax, then follow Spike the Bee around World Showcase as he collects nectar and pollen on his pollination trail. Each time you find him, you add a sticker to your map. Once you’ve tracked him down everywhere, you bring your completed map to Disney Traders, Creations Shop, or World Traveler and collect a surprise prize.

It’s a really fun way to experience the festival differently. You end up in corners of World Showcase you might have otherwise breezed past. If you’re going with kids, this is basically a no-brainer. But even as an adult, it adds a surprisingly enjoyable layer to the day. Just keep in mind that maps and prizes are available while supplies last, so don’t wait until the end of your trip to grab one.

The EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival is one of my favorite times of year, but it’s also easy to do wrong if you’re not careful. Plan just enough, share your snacks, respect the concert crowds, and don’t forget to look up from your plate once in a while.
