This Popular Universal Orlando Ride Closed 87 TIMES (!!!) in ONE Month

It’s pretty normal to see some rides have issues during park days, because hey, sometimes technology has rough days, and we’re used to that.

However, we keep track of all the ride closures that happen each day in both Disney World and Universal Orlando, as well as how many they close throughout a month, because it gives us a good idea of what rides may be struggling (and could perhaps see a refurbishment soon if the issues get too intense). Imagine our surprise when we took a look and saw that a popular ride in Islands of Adventure closed 87 TIMES in the span of just one month!

Skull Island: Reign of Kong is located in its own section of Islands of Adventure, right between Jurassic Park and Toon Lagoon. It’s the only attraction located in this section, and it opened in the park in 2016.

While the ride itself is mostly screen based, very similar to Fast & Furious — Supercharged over in Universal Studios Florida, there are a few animatronics inside the attraction that are quite impressive — especially Kong at the end, when he’s working properly.

This ride often sees decently high wait times, seeing as it is the only ride in this section of the park, and it doesn’t help that Jurassic Park River Adventure, close by, is closed until November 19th, 2026, so that’s one fewer ride for guests to experience nearby.

So it’s especially not great, knowing how high this ride’s wait times CAN get, that it closed 87 TIMES in just the month of January. When a popular ride closes, it often means that others shoot up in wait time to compensate, and that’s never fun for anyone in the park.

If this continues, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this ride undergo a refurbishment in the near future. It wouldn’t be great considering other closures happening in the park, but hey, if that’s what it needs to get working again, we’ll take it!
