Another Disney villain is about to get the live-action treatment! Up next? Gaston!
Deadline reports that a film centered around the villain from Beauty and the Beast is in the works, with a new storyline, new actors, and a new creative team.
The script for the new film is being written by Dave Callaham, and Michelle Rejwan is producing. There is currently no director lined up for the movie. The creators have stated that they’ll be penning a “new and original” version of the story with a new actor playing Gaston, meaning that Luke Evans will not reprise his role from the live-action Beauty and the Beast.
Plot details for the new version are scarce currently, but it’s supposed to have a “swashbuckling” feel to it. Insiders said that Disney is very excited by this idea.
This is the second Gaston spin-off that Disney has attempted. After the 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast hit one billion at the box office, a Gaston TV series with Luke Evans was announced. Unfortunately, that project was later scrapped.
