Hold on…could Batman be coming to Universal Studios Resort in the future?!

Universal is not new to having superhero attractions at the park. Islands of Adventure has a whole land dedicated to Marvel Comics. Now, could they be adding DC Comics to their superhero attraction gauntlet? Let’s take a look at what we know!
According to Bloomberg, Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. is in talks with theme park operators to license its DC comic book characters for new attractions. After the Marvel Cinematic Universe took off, Marvel became even more popular than it had ever been before. However, let’s not forget that DC Comics has arguably the most popular superheroes in the world (outside of Spider-Man). We’re talking Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman — along with a roster of other big names!

DC being created by Universal Creative would be a level of immersiveness and detail we’ve never seen with the property before. DC properties are currently licensed to Six Flags Entertainment Corp, which offers a few DC-themed rides at its parks. This includes attractions like Batman: The Ride, Justice League: Battle for Metropolis, Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom, and others.

This wouldn’t be the first time Universal has talked with Warner Bros. about getting DC into the park. Way back when Universal was developing Islands of Adventure as its second theme park in Orlando, Universal had planned on adding a DC Super Hero Land. The plan didn’t fall through, and the land became Marvel Super Hero Island instead. We’re serious, there’s even concept art of the proposed DC attractions and everything.

The plan was fascinating, as the land was going to be split between an area themed to Metropolis and Gotham City, highlighting the homes of DC Comics’ two faces — Batman and Superman. However, the plan fell apart due to financial disagreements. After the deal didn’t work out, Universal changed the plan from a land themed to DC to Marvel.

Since Warner Bros. and Universal have talked about having DC attractions in their parks before, Universal could consider re-opening that door with Warner Bros. about its current DC licensing offers. According to a source, the talks are in an early stage currently and don’t yet involve contractual negotiations. We’ll be keeping up with any news around this to see if talks continue to unfold, so make sure to stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest!
