Learning from experts who have been around Disney World for a long time can be such a huge benefit! That’s why when a 33-year Disney Vacation Club member shared their number one resort, we had to listen!

When it comes to choosing a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resort, few opinions carry more weight than those of long-time members. After all, some DVC owners have spent decades exploring nearly every Disney resort, often returning year after year to find the perfect “home away from home.” Their insight can help future guests decide where to stay and which resort best matches their vacation style. So let’s find out which resort these experts swear by!
If you’re looking for a travel agent to help with your vacation, we recommend our friends at Mouse Fan Travel. They’re experts in the field with over 20 years of vacation planning experience, and they can help take a bunch of the stress out of the entire booking process for you!
In our reader’s recent review, the DVC member wrote this about staying at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort:
“Villa was up to what we were used to, clean and very nicely furnished. We have been a DVC member since 1992 and have stayed at almost all of the sites. Riviera would be our first choice.”
While they enjoyed the Grand Floridian’s beautiful accommodations, this experienced DVC guest made it clear that Disney’s Riviera Resort tops their list.
However, they did note some drawbacks during their recent Grand Floridian stay:
“The villas while very nice, are too far from restaurants or any place for food. The food was good if not great once you walked from the villas. Parking was almost full and you had to be lucky just to get a place. Thank goodness the DVC person did show us a place to park that was within a couple of blocks from our villa. If you have a problem walking long times this may not be for you.”
The only major positive from their stay? The friendly and helpful staff, which is something Disney guests can nearly always count on.

Why Riviera Might Be a DVC Favorite
Opened in 2019, Disney’s Riviera Resort is one of the newest additions to the DVC lineup and offers a distinctly European flair inspired by Walt Disney’s travels along the Mediterranean coast. It’s elegant, intimate, and filled with artistic touches, from mosaic murals along the walkways to Disney-inspired art in every room.

One of Riviera’s biggest advantages is its size and layout. It’s smaller and easier to navigate than sprawling resorts like the Grand Floridian, which means guests are never too far from dining, transportation, or recreation. For those who prefer convenience and walkability, Riviera checks many boxes for Disney guests.

Perks of Staying at Disney’s Riviera Resort
1. Skyliner Access
Riviera offers direct access to the Disney Skyliner, which connects guests to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in just minutes — a perk for those who want to skip the Disney buses.
2. Top-Tier Dining
Riviera’s dining scene punches above its size. Topolino’s Terrace is a fan favorite, offering a signature rooftop dinner and a wildly popular character breakfast featuring Mickey and friends in stylish artist outfits. Downstairs, Primo Piatto offers quick-service meals that feel a step above typical resort fare, and Le Petit Café serves coffee, pastries, and evening cocktails.
3. Luxe, Homey Feel
With its elegant décor and intimate atmosphere, Riviera feels like a refined European retreat while still being family-friendly. DVC members especially love the spacious villas and stunning views, whether overlooking the Skyliner line or the tranquil lake.

Who Might Want to Skip the Riviera
While many DVC members adore the Riviera, it’s not the perfect fit for everyone.
-
Families who prefer themed fun: Guests who love heavily themed resorts like Disney’s Polynesian Village or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge may find Riviera’s modern, upscale aesthetic a bit too subdued.
-
Budget-conscious travelers: The Riviera is one of the pricier DVC resorts, even after years of being open.
-
Those without Skyliner destinations in mind: If your trip focuses on Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom, the Skyliner access isn’t as beneficial, and bus rides can feel a bit longer.

The Grand Floridian: A Disney Classic
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is often called the “crown jewel” of Walt Disney World hotels. It is a Victorian-inspired icon, just a monorail stop or a short walk away from Magic Kingdom. For many guests, it’s the ultimate Disney splurge, offering refined décor, stunning lake views, and top-notch service.

However, as our DVC reviewer noted, the layout can be a challenge, especially for guests staying in the DVC building. The walk to the main building for dining or transportation can be long, and parking can be tricky. That said, the Grand Floridian remains unmatched in its proximity to Magic Kingdom and its classic Disney atmosphere.

Grand Floridian vs. Riviera: Which Should You Choose?
If you’re looking for classic Disney elegance and Magic Kingdom convenience, the Grand Floridian might still be your dream stay. You’ll enjoy dining at Narcoossee’s, Citricos, or Grand Floridian Café, plus easy access to the monorail and Seven Seas Lagoon views. But if you prefer modern luxury, walkable convenience, and quick access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, the Riviera Resort is tough to beat.

Finding the perfect Disney resort can be difficult because what is ideal for one guest is the opposite for another. Having a travel agent can help you determine what is a good fit for your party! For more Disney reviews and tips, follow AllEars.net.

As a 34 year DVC member, Riviera was just too far removed from everything. The only draw of the resort was the coffee bar.
