If you’ve been following the news, you’ll probably have read about the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) cutting flights at 40 airports across the U.S. while the government shutdown continues. We previously reported that Orlando International Airport would be one of the airports affected.

As of Friday, November 7th, almost 30 flights have been canceled at Orlando International Airport.
As of 10 AM on November 7th, 29 flights have been canceled at Orlando International Airport. According to FlightAware, the majority of canceled flights have hit Southwest Airlines, with a total of 12 flights canceled. However, other airlines are experiencing cancellations, too, including JetBlue, Frontier, American, Breeze, United, and Delta.

These cancellations are due to the FAA cutting flights while the government shutdown continues, which has caused a shortage in air traffic controllers, who have gone without pay for over a month since the shutdown began.
If you are flying today, you’ll want to pack a lot of extra patience. You’ll also want to keep an eye on your departure times, as well as have a way for your airline to notify you, either through text messaging, email, or via the airline’s app.

If your flight is cancelled, many airlines are offering refunds and waivers for canceled flights, even if you’ve booked a non-refundable fare. Many airlines are also waiving change fees and fare differences if you need to change your flight due to a cancellation. You’ll need to contact your airline if these cancellations have affected your flight or if you’re worried about your flight being canceled.

We would expect more cancellations over the next week, depending on how long the government shutdown lasts. We’ll be keeping an eye on the situation in Orlando and keep you updated, so check back with AllEars again soon for more.
