The BBC’s Doctor Who will have to find a new streaming home, at least outside of the U.K.

That’s because Deadline reports that Disney+ has decided to bail on the series after just two seasons. However, the good news is that more Doctor Who is on the way, just not on Disney+.

Rumors about Disney cutting ties with Doctor Who have been circulating since May, when the newest season of Doctor Who aired its finale. It was also confirmed that the current Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, would be exiting the role. Rumors also circulated the the show was over, but as a long-time Doctor Who fan, I can confirm that this always seems to be the case when an actor leaves the role of the Doctor.

However, the BBC has confirmed that the show will continue and announced the return of Doctor Who on December 25th, 2026, when a new Christmas episode will air.

Disney+ is still contracted to stream episodes of the Doctor Who spin-off miniseries, The War Between the Land and the Sea, in 2026 (although the series will first air in the U.K. later this year).

Doctor Who, though, will go on, as it always has. The series has already been on the air for over 60 years (with a brief hiatus between 1996 and 2005), and the BBC remains committed to the series.

“The BBC remains fully committed to Doctor Who, which continues to be one of our most loved dramas, and we are delighted that Russell T Davies has agreed to write us another spectacular Christmas special for 2026,” BBC drama director Lindsay Salt said. “We can assure fans, the Doctor is not going anywhere, and we will be announcing plans for the next series in due course which will ensure the TARDIS remains at the heart of the BBC.”

The only question that remains, though, is if and where Doctor Who will stream in the U.S. in the future.
