It’s been a big year of additions for Universal Orlando, but that doesn’t mean subtractions aren’t coming…
While we’ve already said goodbye to Universal Studios Florida’s Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, Universal isn’t stopping the demolitions there. Over at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, a longtime dormant land is going away fo and we mean BIG. We won’t waste any time; let’s just get straight into the news.
Suffice it to say, Islands of Adventure has sort of forgotten about the Lost Continent section of the park. An opening day feature and park staple since 1999, this land was greatly modified in favor of the then-new Wizarding World of Harry Potter in the 2010s. The land became even more abandoned in recent years.
When it opened, the land immersed guests in the world of mythical beasts and gods.
In 2018, The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad (a stunt show) closed. The land’s last main attraction — Poseidon’s Fury — shut its doors for good in 2023.
Now, the only remaining draw of the Lost Continent is the renowned Mythos Restaurant. There are also some quick-service locations and shopping options. Otherwise, no other attractions currently exist in Lost Continent, and the land has largely gone unused.
As such, Universal revealed that the Lost Continent area will undergo construction “as part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments.”
Furthering this announcement, Universal applied for a permit in September to demolish nearly five acres of “theme park site” at the theme park. While officials have not confirmed that the construction activity is related to this specific redevelopment, the permit aligns with the replacement of Poseidon’s Fury and The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad — two attractions that, combined, took up about five acres.
What is coming to the area is still unknown. Universal Destinations & Experiences CEO Mark Woodbury indicated the replacement theming would be IP-based (rooted in established intellectual property). He also did not limit what that IP could be, saying, “The Universal IP is our bread-and-butter and the foundation of our work. But we’re not afraid to go outside when we see an opportunity to drive business with the unique properties like Harry Potter or Nintendo.”
Some rumored properties have included Pokémon, The Legend of Zelda, and One Piece. With that said, this is all speculative, and nothing has yet been confirmed. When it is, you’ll be the first to know!

I’ll just point out that Universal is releasing the upcoming Christopher Nolan film The Odyssey. They may be waiting to see if the movie is the hit they think it can be.
