Changes are happening at Disney’s Pop Century Resort — and you might not like them!

Pop Century is undergoing a massive refurbishment right now, and it sounds like one of our favorite things will be changing. Let’s take a look at what’s happening.

This has been a year of refurbishments, closures, and changes at Disney World. From the parks to the resorts, it seems like there’s always something going on. Pop Century is one of those locations getting a refurb, and it’s a BIG one!

We recently went to check out the resort, and pretty much everything is under refurbishment. Based on the note on the Disney World website, they’re shooting for everything to be complete in just over a month.

The kids’ area is behind black curtains.

You can see here with this Minnie and Daisy wall that they will be making way for a “new era” of the hotel’s look.

The vacation planning and concierge desk area is currently behind white construction walls.

The seating area that’s currently towards the doors has a temporary TV, but that will be turned into more of a communal long table situation once it’s finished. The front desks are getting new murals behind them as well.

It’s all looking good, but when you’re in with the new, you’re out with the old. We have some bad news regarding the iconic shadow boxes with all the vintage items in them. They are now gone!

While we were at the resort, we talked with a Cast Member, and they confirmed that the shadow boxes (which we LOVED looking at for years) have been removed indefinitely.

We’re going to miss a lot of what made the resort the icon that it is. Pop Century has been updating a lot, starting with its Everything Pop! Shopping and Dining area, which contains the hotel’s food court. There’s also a refurb going on with the guest rooms, which are expected to be complete in mid-February 2026. We are so disappointed about this change. We normally are fine with Disney’s renovation decisions and liked the update to the dining area when we visited earlier this year. But removing these iconic articles from the 50 through the 90’s seems ill thought through, as celebrating pop culture is the essence of the resort. It was so fun to look through the items, especially with my daughter and showing her how things used to be and she loved the retro vibe. We hope they will find another place to display them.
I looked forward to seeing the pieces of nostalgia on display. It is a major reason I would stay there. I was going to offer Disney a couple of hard to find items to add to their collection. I guess the same people in charge of the new Cracker Barrel look were behind this redo. I hope Disney hasn’t sold or disposed of all those things. I have a feeling they will be bringing them back.
