There are dozens of hotels across Walt Disney World property, meaning that there’s a resort for every visitor. However, that doesn’t stop some Disney Adults from booking the WRONG one.

Over the last three decades, I’ve stayed at every level of Disney hotel. Over those visits, I’ve learned – sometimes the hard way – that there are a lot of elements that go into choosing the right Disney hotel… and a lot of pitfalls that could lead to choosing the wrong one.
Rope Drop to Close
If you’re the type of Disney visitor who simply sees your room as a nightly refueling station where you sleep between rope drop to closing park days, then there is really no need to overspend on a Deluxe or even Moderate Tier Disney hotel.

The rooms at a value resort would be more than sufficient, and both Pop Century and Art of Animation offer the Deluxe-style perk of Skyliner transportation.

Park Plans
If you’re visit is built around visiting one Disney World theme park specifically — say to attend the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom — then you should plan to stay near that park.

To use the Food & Wine example, it would make much more sense in that instance to stay in the EPCOT resort area — and take advantage of the walking, boat, and Skyliner transportation options — as opposed to staying near a different theme park.

Know Your Resort Layout
If you’re traveling with someone in your party who has mobility issues or problems walking long distances, then it’s probably a bad idea to book one of the large, sprawling Moderate Tier hotels like the Caribbean Beach Resort or Coronado Springs.

On the other hand, if you’re traveling with someone who doesn’t feel like people are on top of them, it might be best to avoid structures like the Contemporary or the Riviera.

Skyliner Fears
While I’ve praised the Skyliner several times in this list, there is an exception: If you or someone in your party is afraid of heights, it’s for the best to NOT stay at a hotel on the Skyliner line. If you can’t use the gondola system, you’ll be massively complicating your transportation to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

Using the Pool?
Many of Walt Disney World’s hotels have breathtaking feature pools — including the Yacht and Beach Club’s shared Stormalong Bay — which is a good as some water parks — but they’re only valuable if you use them. If you’re not planning to use the pool, or the weather at the time of year you’re visiting doesn’t seem like the best for long pool days, it may be best to avoid planning your hotel around its pool.
