FULL REVIEW: Come with Us to Yoshi’s Snack Island at Epic Universe

Planning a trip to Universal’s NEW Epic Universe park?! We don’t blame you!

SUPER NINTENDO WORLD

We’re trying out EVERY place you can stop to dine, snack, and drink your way around Universal’s newest park. We recently stopped by Yoshi’s Snack Island at Epic Universe and are bringing you our FULL review!

Background

Yoshi’s Snack Island joins Toadstool Cafe and one other snack stand as Super Nintendo World’s dining options. Here, you can find juices and fruit-based specialty beverages along with a snack or two.

Yoshi’s Snack Island

You can find Yoshi’s Snack Island tucked into the base of Mount Beanpole.

Atmosphere

Since this is a snack stand, you won’t find a whole lot of seating — okay, you won’t really find any seating. But, it’s hard to deny how much it really feels like you’re in the middle of a video game when you’re here.

When we stopped by, the place was in true dress rehearsal mode with multiple cast members being trained. It’s a dark little cave of a snack stand, but we suppose the shaded line is nice in Florida.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

We picked up the Mango Smoothie for $7.49. At Yoshi’s Snack Island, you can choose between a mango or an apple-melon smoothie, but we were feeling mango on this visit.

This was a good smoothie that was really elevated by the fact that there was some whipped cream that tasted like real whipped cream, plus some freshly chopped mango pieces on top. For us, this was a fun touch because it wasn’t just the slushy stuff that comes out of a machine.

Mango Smoothie

We would definitely get it again, especially as a nice mid-day sweet treat when it gets a little warm in the park. We also thought the price was pretty decent for it, especially when you consider what you’re paying for just a Diet Coke here.

For a snack, we also grabbed the Red Shell Calzone for $12.99. There was no menu when we stopped by, but we confirmed that this calzone has pepperoni, sausage, cheese, and marinara sauce inside.

Our reporter, who tried it, said it reminded her of something she would have gotten at the roller skating rink when she was in middle school, and she would have thought it was delicious back then. Now? It was basically a turtle shell-shaped Hot Pocket. These are not being prepared fresh — they’re baked and then kept in a warmer at the snack stand. But it was pretty easy to eat. There’s a good amount of bread here, and we really wish there had been a higher filling-to-bread ratio.

Red Shell Calzone

The dough was soft, and it had good flavor, but it wasn’t reminiscent of other calzones or pizza crust that have that crunchy exterior. Our other problem is that it’s a bit pricey for the size. We would say it’s palm-sized, and so kind of pricey for something this small. We would probably recommend it for kids, especially if your kids love pizza rolls or Hot Pockets, and they don’t want to branch out here at the park, but we think there are much better ways to spend your money in this land!

So, what’s the final verdict?

Magic or Tragic?

You should skip this Epic Universe spot if…
