Disney Cruise Line has been busy in the last year! The Disney Treasure set sail at the end of 2024, and they’re already preparing for the next new ship, The Disney Adventure, to set sail in December 2025. If you’re hitting the high seas soon, you need to know about these rules that have changed for the cruise line!
Disney Cruise Line is one of our favorite ways to enjoy Disney without the hustle and bustle of the theme parks, but if you don’t know about these new rules, it won’t be as relaxing as you might think! First on our list of rules, if you’re traveling from outside the U.S., you might be impacted.
We love Disney Cruises!
The Vacation Protection Plan is no longer available to people outside the United States. The protection plan covers you under certain unexpected circumstances or emergencies before and after your vacation. Now, if you’re outside of the U.S., you can’t get the extra coverage.
A room on the Disney Magic!
To qualify for the vacation plan, you need to meet the following criteria:
The booking origin, or travel agency, is based in either the United States or Canada
Must pay for the reservation in US dollars
Must have a United States address
Our second rule impacts everyone sailing!

In 2025, those iconic Disney Cruise luggage tags are changing! There will now be three versions of tags sent out for sailings onboard a Disney Cruise Line ship — Concierge, Non-Concierge, and GTY. GTY is short for “Guarantee.” If you book a stateroom without knowing the exact room number, it is called a “Guarantee” since Disney guarantees that your booking will be in the category you pay for or better.
Disney Dream Mickey Funnel
Each ship in the cruise line has a different color luggage tag for easy sorting. The Disney Magic is green, the Disney Wonder is orange, the Disney Dream is blue, the Disney Fantasy is purple, the Disney Wish is maroon, and the Disney Treasure is yellow.
Next up, there are new Guest Travel Booklets! Along with your new luggage tags, you’ll receive a mailer before your trip with a QR code that will prompt you to log in and view additional port arrival information on the online Guest Travel Booklet.
Disney Wish docked at Castaway Cay
The Guest Travel Booklet will give you details about your upcoming sailing. There’s information like the port’s address, luggage tag information, citizenship documentation, My Online Check-In, what to pack, and much more. Once you get the QR code in your luggage tag mailer, you can access the booklet or you can go to www.DisneyCruise.com/LuggageTagMailer or on the Disney Cruise Line website by clicking Already Booked > My Reservations and clicking on the Get Details under Before You Can Board.
The Disney Wish.
A super important rule for 2025 is to be cautious of Norovirus. Norovirus is known as the “cruise ship virus,” and we’ve already seen a few outbreaks this year. This virus is highly contagious and can be found on surfaces for weeks after being exposed.
Disney Treasure Stateroom
The best way to prevent the virus is to be sure to wash your hands consistently. Hand sanitizers don’t work as effectively as classic soap and water! Finally, one rule you need to implement for yourself is to consistently check prices!
Sail Away Party
With so many new Disney Cruise Ships hitting the seas, prices on older ships could start shifting. Now, this isn’t a guarantee, but it’s like when a new phone comes out, the older model is probably going to drop in price. The Disney Treasure just set sail in December 2024, and the Disney Adventure’s maiden voyage is set for December 15th, 2025.
The new cruise ship’s home is in Singapore and will feature tons of new offerings like 3 new rides, new shows featuring Duffy and Friends, new food experiences, and more! While we won’t know what prices will look like just yet, it’s always best practice to keep checking. If that sounds stressful to you, let someone else take over!
If you’re looking for a travel agent to help with your vacation, we recommend our friends at Mouse Fan Travel. They’re experts in the field with over 20 years of vacation planning experience, and they can help take a bunch of the stress out of the entire booking process for you! They’ll keep an eye on all of the best deals so you don’t have to.
If you know all of these rules before setting sail with the Disney Cruise Line, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy without any added stress! We can’t wait to set sail this year and will be happily planning in the meantime. As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more Disney Cruise tips and tricks.
