UPDATE on Lengthy Hotel Room Refurbishment at Disney's Contemporary Resort

We recently got an update on one of Disney’s longest-current hotel refurbishment projects.

Bay Lake Tower

Earlier this year, Disney announced that “From September 2024 to September 2025, room refurbishment work will take place in Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. During this time, guests will see and hear construction work throughout Bay Lake Tower.” Now the refurb has been shortened to summer 2025, and we got an exciting update from a Cast Member!

With Disney’s timetable for the refurbishment halfway complete, we recently checked in on Bay Lake Tower to see how the refurbishment was going.

In talking to a Cast Member, we were told that renovations to rooms on the south side of the building — specifically rooms 24 to 44 on floors 7 to 16 — are complete and able to be booked now by “requesting a south room on a higher floor.”

This progress would seem to indicate that work is proceeding on the refurbishment on schedule, and is likely in line to be complete in a few months.

Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort first opened to much fanfare in 2009. Built on the grounds of the Contemporary’s old North Garden Wing building, the tower is technically a standalone Disney Vacation Club resort but follows the same design aesthetic and theme as the original Contemporary. Over the last 15 years, the resort has become one of the most expensive and in-demand of the Disney Vacation Club’s properties for members and non-members alike, thanks to its luxury and proximity to the Magic Kingdom.
