Choosing which Disney World hotel you’re going to stay in on your next visit is no small feat — especially since there are SO many to pick from.

Some Disney World resorts have incredible theming, while others are relaxing and luxurious. Depending on which parks you’re going to, you might find that a hotel along Disney’s Skyliner route might be best for you. But, if you’re planning on rope-dropping on your trip, you might want to skip the Skyliner hotels.
Did you know that here on AllEars, we’ve got a HUGE database of reviews for all kinds of Disney World things? It’s true, and that’s where we’re headed today. Over on the AllEars review page for Disney World hotels, we stumbled upon a review for the Art of Animation that might make you think twice about staying at a Skyliner resort!

Four Disney World hotels have Skyliner stops: Riviera Resort, Caribbean Beach Resort, and Art of Animation and Pop Century — which share a station. A recent review of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort has pointed out a glaring problem with the Skyliner: rope drop — or getting to the parks right before, or when they open.

One AllEars reviewer said that they used to love the Art of Animation hotel and Pop Century hotel, which are both along the Skyliner route, but recently, they’ve changed their tune. They ended up missing rope drop because the Skyliner was so backed up!
They shared, “We are rope drop to park close people. Rope drop does not work for Epcot and Hollywood Studios anymore at these resorts. I got in line at 7:15 am and didn’t get on a Skyliner car until 8! Missed rope drop.”

Even worse, the same thing ended up happening the next day. They got to the Skyliner station earlier than the day before and were even further back in line, so they decided to Uber to the parks instead. In their review, they said the “Skyliner resorts used to be an advantage/value, but not anymore.”

Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that this is one person’s experience, but it’s not exactly an uncommon one. The Skyliner absolutely can and does get backed up at park open and close, which is why we recommend getting there much earlier than they open. If rope drop is important to you, you’ll want to make sure you get to the Skyliner station early or find alternate transportation to the park you’re heading to.

If you’re not a rope drop person, then this won’t be a problem for you at all! More often than not throughout the day, you won’t find an excessive line at the Skyliner stops for these hotels.
Even though this particular review wasn’t too great for the Skyliner, Art of Animation was still highly regarded by this viewer for having “well-themed rooms” and cute pools with lots of options at the food court (Landscape of Flavors).

This is the perfect example of why we say that not every Disney World hotel is the right fit for every person or group! Read our reviews and those of our readers to get an idea of what might be your perfect hotel.

Like the article said, this is one person’s view. I’ve done Pop about 3 times now, and I’ve never had a rope drop problem. LOVE the Skyline!
Ditto. WDW needs to get the Skyliner up and running by 6:30 on busy days so the line can move.
