REVIEW: We Tried THREE New Treats at Disney World Hotels and One Was the Clear WINNER

The holidays at Disney World are a fantastic time to get out and explore the surrounding hotels.

What’s this?!

While we’ve already seen a few of the Disney World parks dressing up in their holiday best, we’re just now coming into the time when a few of the hotels also get into the holly jolly spirit. And what better way to celebrate than with a few new treats and desserts to help you get into the festivities? Let’s take a look at a few of the newest Disney World treats we tracked down and put to the test!

Half of the fun of visiting Disney World around the holidays is getting the opportunity to see all of the yummy treats and desserts the culinary teams come up with. When Disney World announced that new treats would be rolling out soon to select hotels, we knew it was the perfect reason to take a break from the crowds in the parks for a little while and go on a mini hunt of our own.

We set out on a mission to try some of the prettiest treats at a few of the holiday treats that have recently rolled out across select Disney World hotels and we’ve got quite the lineup to share with you!

First up for us on our treat journey was the Festive Tart! You’ll find this little one at The Mara inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge — Jambo House. It’s made of a vanilla tart shell with banana cake, caramel sauce, matcha crunch, chai mousse, and green magic shell topped with holiday lights and an animal print Mickey and will cost you $6.49.

This one is a sight to behold! We loved all the fun details added to the top of the tart. But how did it taste?

Festive Tart

The mousse inside of the hard shell topping was a chai flavor we could tell that right off the bat. Its spice almost gave this treat its own holiday flair to the taste. But the real star of the ingredients here was the banana cake base for the tart. It was dense enough to hold up the tart and do its part to hold everything together and the banana flavor was spot on. It wasn’t too much to make it taste artificial and we got some notes of the caramel and matcha crumbs on top of it but not enough to really make a big difference to our taste buds (so much so that if you’re not a fan of matcha flavors, you probably won’t even be able to tell that’s what it is).

Inside of the tart

While we really enjoyed the base of the tart, we found ourselves imagining what this one would taste like with some added walnuts for an extra crunch and flavor. Be careful toting this one around though because we noticed the top ring of the mousse tends to slide around on the base if you’re not watching it.

Then we ventured over to The Beach Club Marketplace at Disney’s Beach Club Resort for the Holiday Mickey Cupcake. This treat is made of vanilla cupcake, white chocolate mousse, colored buttercream, holiday sprinkles, and white chocolate candy cane and costs $6.49.

Holiday Mickey Cupcake

Well, folks, this is about as standard of a Disney World cupcake as you can get but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s bad. It’s just that we’re used to some pretty bland cupcakes jazzed up into a beautiful creation but totally lacking in the flavor department. But that was almost the beauty behind this treat — it didn’t need a lot of the bells and whistles like fruity fillings and super sugary toppings to make a solid treat. While the flavors were basic, they were a winner in our book because of how toned down they were and they all worked well together.

The vanilla cupcake was a bit on the dry side. The filling for this one was white chocolate which held an interesting flavor contrast to the vanilla flavor in the cupcake so you were easily able to tell them apart. However, our biggest complaint with this one is that it’s top-heavy. In order to keep the filling down there’s an added layer of cake to the top to kind of plug the area where the filling goes in, so when we cut into it, it immediately fell over and we couldn’t get it upright again.

Too cute!

That being said, we’ve yet to come up with a better solution for this problem but it could present itself to you as you’re trying to eat it, too. Oh, and watch out for the whipped buttercream icing because those green and red dyes will linger on your hands and fingers for a while if it gets too messy.

And then we rounded out our trip with the Candy Cane Cheesecake Brownie from The BoardWalk Deli at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn Resort. This cutie is made of peppermint cheesecake, decadent brownie, and dark chocolate ‘Sleigh Bell’ truffle and it cost us $5.49 to pick up.

Candy Cane Cheesecake Brownie

Of all the treats we tried today, we LOVED this one! It’s an ideal holiday treat. The brownie at the bottom is soft and chocolatey but dense enough to carry the weight of the treat. The peppermint cheesecake layer in between was just thick and creamy enough to fill the shoes of a cheesecake. The peppermint flavor in it was light enough to keep from tasting like toothpaste and had just the right amount of mint to be fresh and bright.

An ideal holiday treat

The top side is a thicker layer of chocolate littered with peppermint pieces to give it that extra crunch and it’s delicious. Overall, we had a really hard time finding fault with this one and the only difference we could find with it was that our “sleigh bell” didn’t taste much like it had any truffle to it. It was mostly chocolate which would have been fine with us, but since it was advertised as containing truffle, we would have loved to have had more of that flavor coming through because ours was very chocolatey!

All that said, the Candy Cane Cheesecake Brownie was probably one of the best holiday treats we’ve tried of the season so far, however, the others like the Festive Tart and the Holiday Mickey Cupcake didn’t impress us as much as we had hoped they would.

  1. I definitely would if only Port Orleans and French Quarters had something to offer..We have stayed at both resorts over the past 15 years and it is the same old tired donuts..cinnamon bun…chocolate chip cookies that have shrunk through the years…plain old cupcakes with hardened icing…a cheesecake offering that has the consistency of pudding…not fun.
