Orlando Airport is still picking up the pieces.

Like many institutions in Florida — including theme parks like Disney World, the Universal Orlando Resort, and Sea World — Orlando International Airport (MCO) shut down on October 9th in preparation for Hurricane Milton. This led to nearly 1000 flight cancelations and delays. Now, the airport is beginning to pick up from the storm.
As of mid-morning of October 10th, Orlando International Airport is still closed to commercial traffic according to MCO’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Operational Update #7 – Hurricane Milton
Emergency crews remained onsite overnight, and damage assessment will start taking place now. The airport wrote, “Emergency crews remained onsite overnight, and damage assessment will start taking place now. Once information becomes available about a specific time that commercial operations will resume, we’ll be sure to post about it.”
This means that for the second day in a row, there are nearly 1,000 flight cancelations into and out of MCO on October 10th.

While Milton has left a wide swath of damage — and as of 10AM on the 10th has left approximately 3 million Florida residents without power — things could have been much worse, according to Governor Ron DeSantis. On the morning of October 10th, he said, “What we can say is the storm was significant, but thankfully, this was not the worst-case scenario.”

As Florida begins to assess the damage from Hurricane Milton, MCO remains closed, with thousands of flights still canceled. Stay tuned to AllEars for further updates on the Orlando International Airport’s reopening, and Florida as a whole following Milton.
