Disney World Restricts Hotel Reservations Ahead of Potential Hurricane Milton

Hurricane Milton is out in the Gulf of Mexico and is carefully being tracked by the National Hurricane Center and other weather stations.

The storm is expected to remain a hurricane and make landfall along the West Coast of the Florida Peninsula as a major hurricane. As the storm gets closer, we’ve noticed that Disney World has begun to make preparations.

Tropical Storm Milton is expected to become Hurricane Milton by Monday, October 7th. The forecasted storm track continues to show it headed directly for the Orlando area and Disney World. As of October 5th, Governor Ron DeSantis declared a State of Emergency for 35 Florida counties, including the counties Disney World falls within — Orange and Osceola.

As the tropical storm continues to build and models and forecasts continue to have the same trend for the storm’s track, Disney World is very likely to see the effects, including rain and hurricane-force winds. Due to this, we’ve noticed the resort is already beginning preparations. Disney World has stopped taking hotel reservations for October 8th through October 10th. Reservation options begin again on October 11th.

Those who already have hotel reservations are in luck, but anyone who does not yet have a reservation is not able to make them for the days the storm is predicted to hit Disney World. This allows Disney World to accommodate those who are already at the resort without having to add to the number of guests there in case of park closures.

In the case of park closures at Disney World during a hurricane, guests will be asked to remain at their hotels. Disney typically provides entertainment such as extra activities and accommodations like food service to those at the hotels throughout the duration of the storm.

As of now, Disney World has not made any announcements about park closures or other activities being canceled. As the storm works its way closer to Florida, be on the lookout for notifications via the My Disney Experience app or the Disney World website. If you’re staying at Disney World this week, be sure to head Cast Members information and have rain gear available if you do plan to visit the parks.

UPDATE: Disney World has now blocked off park pass reservations for all four theme parks for October 9th. This means those who are required to book park reservations, including Annual Passholders and military Salute ticket holders, will no longer be able to make reservations for that day.

Disney also issued a statement on the status of Hurricane Milton, reading, “Walt Disney World Resort is currently operating under normal conditions. We are closely monitoring the path of the projected storm as we continue to prioritize the safety of our Guests and Cast Members.”
