Ride closures in Disney World happen — as much as they can be frustrating and put a damper on your day, it’s just a part of Disney World we all have to come to accept.
Outdoor rides will close in storms and heavy rain since it’s not safe for the Cast Members, guests, or the ride itself, but other times, rides will go down due to technical issues. Sometimes they can be fixed in just a few minutes or an hour, but other times it can take multiple hours and it’ll be closed for a large part of the day. Whatever the reason, we keep track of the rides that close the most in each park each month, so you know what rides you may want to expect to have issues. While some of these are what we expected them to be, EPCOT has totally thrown us for a loop.
Magic Kingdom
Over in the OG Disney World park, we weren’t surprised to see that Seven Dwarfs Mine Train closed 51 times over 24 days, because it is such a highly sought after ride that has relatively low capacity. We were pleasantly surprised to see that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure wasn’t first on this list though!
Second place was a bit of a surprise, we won’t lie — The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh closed 46 times in 26 days, which was…not what we were expecting! While this is a classic ride, it isn’t one of the most popular attractions in Fantasyland, and doesn’t have a lot of moving parts. But maybe it just had a rough month.
EPCOT
Now here’s where we’re still scratching out heads. EPCOT is home to some massively popular attractions like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic rewind, Frozen Ever After, and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Yet, NONE of these attractions were the top 2 closures this month. Nope, the first place spot instead goes to Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros, which closed 39 times over 21 days.
Second place wasn’t much better — Journey Into Imagination With Figment, another ride not known for being very popular, closed 32 times over 20 days. We don’t know what it was with filler attractions in EPCOT this month, but maybe they need a little TLC.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Over in the park known for all the dramatic flair (since, you know, Hollywood), Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway closed 30 times over 20 days, which isn’t too bad considering it’s a trackless dark ride with lots of moving pieces.
In second place was Slinky Dog Dash closed 29 times over 16 days, which we think is actually VERY impressive considering this is a fully outdoor attraction in the middle of hurricane season. Well done, Slinky Dog!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Which is why we’re gonna cut this next one a little slack, because otherwise…we don’t know what’s going on. TriceraTop Spin closed 33 times over 22 days, and we’re HOPING that was all mostly weather related. This ride will be extinct soon as the Tropical Americas retheme starts to take place in DinoLand U.S.A., but let’s hope it doesn’t tap out before then.
Second on the closure list this month was Expedition Everest, which closed 30 times over 19 days. Again, this is an outdoor attraction, so we’re chalking up most of those closures to that. Even if not, this is an intense roller coaster that is a little more involved that TriceraTop Spin, so we understand!
