Any day where we get to try a ton of new Disney World snacks and offerings is a good day in our book!
Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month began today, and Disney is celebrating all month long (and into October!) by dropping tons of new Hispanic and Latin American-inspired dishes all around Disney Springs. We skipped breakfast, headed to Springs, and got eating, and let us just say now — these offerings are TOO GOOD to miss!
We first headed to Amorette’s Patisserie to grab the Guava and Cheese Mille-Feuille for $7.75. This is made with Layers of Crispy Puff Pastry, Guava Mousse, Cream Cheese Mousse, and Passion Fruit Gel.
This is a super cute treat! It definitely has the notes of the guava and a little bit of passionfruit, but the cheese is more of a cream cheese, and not as bitter or sharp as just plain cream cheese would be. We that they used the cheese and the guava as a filler for icing in between each layer of flaky pastry.
However, that bottom layer is kinda hard to get through, and we almost had to saw it apart! The price is good for the size but we do feel like there will definitely be those that aren’t as passionate about cream cheese in their desserts — if that’s you, this may be one dessert you want to stay away from!
The next stop on our mini food tour was to a newer spot — eet by Maneet Chauhan for their Tostones Nachos for $14.95. The base of the Tostones is actually a fried and squashed green plantain before they go ripe — they fry them, smash them, and then fry them again, giving them that soft center.
It almost tastes like a fried potato cake to us — very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, but it is quite thin. It’s also topped with Pork Chili, Indian Pico, Raita (yogurt with spices), Cotija Cheese, Cilantro, Onions, Cucumbers, and Tomatoes, which we loved. Seriously, this was some of the best Latin food our reporter said she’s ever had in Disney World!
Not to mention that they’re fantastic for the price! We loved the mix of Latin and Indian flavors here, so if you’re someone who isn’t opposed to a little spice and/or seeks it out, this is 100% a dish you need to try!
Then we swung by Sunshine Churros to grab their TWO special offerings this month. First was the Guava and Cheese Churro for $8.50 and while we definitely think it’s a hit for guava and cheese fans, we didn’t necessarily think it was anything special!
The guava is a little thicker, like a jelly you’d find coming out of a packet, but that means it’s got a great, strong guava flavor that pairs well with the cheese, especially when you dip it into the cream cheese dip. If these are flavors you typically enjoy, give it a try!
Our favorite of the two was definitely the Mangonada Churro, also for $8.50. This one has a zesty, fruity mango sauce that almost seems brushed onto it, but it’s thick, so you get a very strong mango taste.
The seasoning over the top of it really brought it home for us — it’s got enough kick to it to elevate the flavor, but not enough heat to burn your mouth. It was a fantastic middle ground for us, and while we think the cream cheese was great to dip it in, we also feel it stands well on its own.
We continued on to The Polite Pig to grab the Blueberry Margarita Churros for $7! Now, stay with us on this — it’s the crunchiest churro our reporter has ever had…in the BEST way! It was so impressively crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside — probably the closest we’ll ever get to a Disneyland churro here in Disney World!
However, we do want to clarify that the title is a little misleading — the churros are filled with a cream cheese-like filling and topped with blueberries, but that’s about it. There may have been a tinge of a tequila flavor in there, but it wasn’t apparent to us. Now, if you’re eating the churros with the blueberries, fantastic, you are getting the main part of the dish, but if you’re only eating the churros and ignoring the blueberries…you’re really just having good churros. So overall, it’s a great dessert, but just be sure you get those blueberries in there to really get the flavor of the whole dish!
Our last stop was the Cilantro Food Truck to grab the Mexican Street Corn for $7. This is fresh corn on the cob, topped with mayo, cotija cheese, tajin, lime, and cilantro and let’s just say our reporter had happy tears in her eyes from the first bite. You know it’s great street corn when all the ingredients just stick TO the corn, and that’s exactly what happened here!
We could taste every single ingredient without it being too runny or buttery, which is a major accomplishment in our eyes. It’s a little pricey, but we’d gladly pay it again and again for how delicious it is. If you’re into street corn, PLEASE head over and try this one out — our reporter said she’s never had street corn this good in all of Orlando!
That’s certainly not all the exciting snacks coming to the parks for this special month of celebration, so be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest Disney World food news!
