Be wary of the weather in Disney World today!

While it’s no secret that weather can often play a role in a Disney World vacation, there are some instances where Mother Nature is more dangerous than others.
On Monday, July 8th, the National Weather Service placed all of Central Florida — including Disney World — under a heat advisory from 11AM to 6PM. According to the agency, temperatures in the area will have heat index values (what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature) of between 106 and 112 degrees.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the advisory warns those in the area to “drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”
Heat is not the only danger, however, as the National Weather Service is also forecasting a 60% chance of severe thunderstorms on Monday afternoon. According to the NSW, the “main hazard with slow moving showers and storms will be locally heavy rainfall” with 1-4 inches of rain possible in certain areas. At their worst, the storms could include wind gusts from 40-50 mph with potential lightning strikes.

If you do find yourself in Disney World — or any other Central Florida attraction for that matter — there are always weather-related precautions worth taking. These include:
- Wearing comfortable, light clothing.
- Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
- Wearing sunglasses, a cap, and SPF lotion to shield from the sun.
- Carry a small fan and cooling towel for relief while sitting in a long line.
Arguably most importantly, listen to your body. As tempting as it can be to try and “gut it out” to “make your money’s worth” from your Disney day, it’s not worth your health. Take breaks, and if you need to tap out on a long line, or even a whole park day, do so if it’s the best option for your health.

According to the NSW, “a “break” in the Major heat is expected Tuesday into mid-week with increased cloud cover, as well as higher shower and lightning storm chances.”

If you’re in the Central Florida area today, take heed of these weather warnings and take all necessary precautions. Stay tuned to AllEars for further weather updates.
