At This Point, We’re Pretty Sure This Disney’s Hollywood Studios Ride Is CURSED

Do you believe in Karma? What about curses? Sometimes, it feels like having the perfect day in Disney World relies on pure LUCK. Let’s say, for example, you’ve been dreaming of riding the Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Well, that might seem like an easy thing to check off your Disney World bucket list…unless the ride is unexpectedly closed for the day.

We talk about random ride closures a LOT around here because, frankly, they can really ruin our plans! But know what’s even worse? An attraction closure that comes right after a months-long refurbishment that was SUPPOSED to fix all those pesky ride problems! Can you tell we’re speaking from recent experience? Let’s talk about it.

OK, first, we should back up. Since January, one of the most popular rides in Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been closed for routine maintenance. We’re talking about Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, a coaster that takes you whizzing through Hollywood on the way to an epic Aerosmith concert.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Now, this ride reopened on July 1st, and fans were THRILLED. After a long-awaited reopening, Disney visitors were very ready to catch a ride in the super-stretch limo. But on July 1st, the ride failed to open with the rest of the park. The My Disney Experience app listed the ride as “Temporarily Closed” first thing in the morning. Womp womp.

The next day, July 2nd, the ride was listed as “Temporarily Closed” AGAIN at 9AM. Our data shows that the ride stayed open for the rest of the day, so maybe ol’ Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster just isn’t a morning person. We get it.

Temporary closures happen all the time, but what makes us nervous about this ride specifically is that this coaster has been through multiple extended closures and refurbishments over the past few years. It just keeps closing!

We LOVE this ride!

Even after a refurbishment that lasted from January to July, the ride still couldn’t seem to work properly on its opening day.

We’re Already WORRIED About This Newly Reopened Hollywood Studios Ride

The good news is that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is NOT currently listed on Disney World’s refurbishment calendar for the remainder of 2024, but we’ll be sure to keep our eyes out for changes.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

If the ride continues to have issues throughout the month, we might start to think that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is CURSED! As of noon on July 3rd, two days after the ride officially reopened, it looks like Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is up and running without issue. It was listed as a 60-minute wait at 12PM.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster can get some LONG lines

Speaking of long waits, here’s a tip for you. In our experience, the single-rider line for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is NOT the skip-the-line hack you might expect it to be. For some reason, the single-rider line seems to move slooooowly at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

When it comes to the operation side of things, we might say this ride is unreliable. But we’ll never stop loving you, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster! In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

  1. Perhaps it got wind of the Aerosmith Farewell Tour, so the ride is also ready to retire. Maybe the ride isn’t cursed, but it is looking for a new bloodline to take the helm of this fantastic roller coaster. I would love to “Dream On” and keep Aerosmith “Livin’ On The Edge” and “What It Takes” to “Walk This Way”. Ok, enough with the song titles. It’s fair to say that, even though Aerosmith is a tremendous band and is a massive part of the historical era of Rock & Roll, it may be time to retire the number.
