An author whose work will soon be familiar to Disney+ fans has died just days before the series based on his books debuts.

The series “Shardlake” is set to debut on May 1st on Disney+. It’s based on a series of novels by C.J. Sansom, who died on April 27th.
Sansom was 71 years old. According to Deadline, he had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2012.

Sansom’s wrote 7 novels about Matthew Shardlake, a barrister with a hunchback who solved crimes. The novels are set in the Tudor era. Deadline reports he was working on an 8th novel when he died.
