Over the past few years, there’s been a lot of discourse surrounding Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District.

Back in 2023, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took over Reedy Creek, now renamed the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, and some changes in and around Disney have been taking place since. And changes will likely continue to happen, as the new Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board has stated it intends to make changes in and around Disney World. Now, let’s take a look at some upcoming dates to see when some of those changes could begin.
Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s back up a bit. What exactly is the Reedy Creek Improvement District/the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District? The Reedy Creek Improvement District is a multi-purpose district that provides essential public services, regulates building codes, land use, and environmental protections, and tries to provide direction for the efficient operation of Walt Disney World property.

When Ron DeSantis took over the Reedy Creek board and implemented his own members, many Disney fans were afraid of the changes he would try to make to the land (and potentially the parks). There’s been an ongoing political conflict between Disney and DeSantis, including both sides filing lawsuits against each other.

However, things have taken a turn recently. The board canceled its final 2023 meeting back in December, and as of early January, Florida lawmakers are taking another step forward with a bill they’ve introduced that would reverse Ron DeSantis’ new board. However, that doesn’t mean the meetings DeSantis’ board has planned for this year won’t happen.

Currently, the members of the board are set to meet each month and address issues inside the district. This includes decisions they make that could impact all of Disney World. The dates they’re meeting in 2024 are as follows, according to the Oversight District website:
- February 28
- March 27
- April 24
- May 22
- June 26
- July 24
- August 28
- September 11 @ 5:05 p.m. (Budget-1st reading)
- September 25 @ 5:05 p.m. (Budget-final reading)
- October 23
- November 20
- December 18

It certainly could be an interesting year for this board and its decisions, so stay tuned to AllEars for all the latest news!
