Amid Political Controversy, DeSantis-Controlled Disney Board Cancels Final 2023 Meeting

Ever since Florida Governor Ron DeSantis first campaigned to have Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District dissolved, we’ve been following the news.

Once known as Reedy Creek, it has now been renamed Central Florida Tourism Oversight District

Ultimately, the district was renamed the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) and given a new board to supervise it. The board members meet frequently to discuss district issues, needs, and changes, and we typically tune in to see what’s going on. But the final meeting of 2023 has been canceled.

The next meeting was scheduled for December 13th, but a notice has been posted on the CFTOD website to note that the meeting has now been canceled.

The next scheduled meeting will take place on January 24th, 2024. All public hearings and items previously scheduled for tomorrow’s meeting will be moved to the agenda for the January date.

Recently, CFTOD has been in the news as some lawmakers and politicians attempt to reverse the bill that changed the district and hand control back over to Disney. We’ve been on the lookout for updates from both ends, so we’ll keep you in the loop no matter what happens.
