Did Disney LIE to Us About These Big Projects?!

Disney has done a lot in 2023.

Magic Kingdom

We got TRON Lightcycle / Run, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, and tons more, along with information on what to expect in 2024. However, there are a few projects that Disney told us would be coming in 2023 that we still haven’t seen come to fruition.

PLAY! Pavilion

Ah yes, the long-awaited EPCOT Transformation is set to finally be complete in 2023, but there’s one part of it that seems to have been completely wiped off the map (literally).

The PLAY! Pavilion was set to be a fully interactive “city,” where visitors can interact with Disney characters in an immersive atmosphere, but it’s been completely taken off the EPCOT map and Disney has sort of just hoped we’d forget about it.

We certainly haven’t forgotten, though, and we’d love to hear an official statement from Disney about what the plans are for this still-standing building. Will PLAY! Pavilion come at a later date, or will it be reimagined into something else entirely?

EPCOT Festival Center

Also over in EPCOT was supposed to be the Festival Center. This was also set to be part of the EPCOT Transformation but, you guessed it, we haven’t heard or seen anything about it in years.

The center was supposed to be a multi-level building that would be home to live events and serve as the center for EPCOT’s four festivals, but after the 3D model of it was removed from EPCOT Experience, guests started to speculate it wasn’t happening.

Again, this was set to be part of the EPCOT Transformation, which is set to be complete by the end of 2023. Disney also hasn’t announced anything specific about the plans for this potentially abandoned project, but we hope to hear something sooner rather than later.

Cake Bake Shop

Over at Disney’s BoardWalk, the Cake Bake Shop is coming along, but it is definitely not meeting its original 2023 opening date.

The construction over at this area of the resort is still going very strong, but the original opening timeline of this new restaurant had it opening in 2023, and that’s clearly not going to happen.

Cake Bake Shop construction as of November 15th, 2023

We’re very excited to experience this new spot when it opens, but we’d love to hear an adjusted reopening timeline from Disney when they’ve got one available.

Summer House on the Lake

Now, Summer House on the Lake coming to Disney Springs before the end of the year is debatable and also a race against time. Why? We’ve seen lots of progress and movement over at this location recently, but will it be completed in the next 30 days?

Summer House on the Lake as of November 28th

There are less than 30 days left of 2023, meaning that if Summer House on the Lake wants to meet its 2023 opening timeline, that’s how long they have to open.

Back tables are ready

It’s hard to see exactly what’s going on inside the building since some of it is still covered up, so the jury’s still out for us on whether we’ll be able to dine here before the clock strikes 2024.
