Genie+ Has Been a Roller Coaster in Disney World Lately — Here’s What You Need to Know

We need to talk about Genie+.

For anyone who needs a refresher, this skip-the-line originally debuted in 2021 and was hit with a lot of controversy after replacing the free FastPass option. Since it was introduced, prices have continued to rise, and the cost can vary depending on demand for that day. We saw the highest Genie+ price since July this past week, so we’re here to break it down.

Here’s a look at this past week’s Genie+ prices:

Genie+ prices this week

The $29 price tag on October 8th was the highest we’d seen since July 5th. That weekend was a holiday weekend and a 3-day weekend for many, which explains the crowds. Also, we’ve seen several dates sell out of park passes meaning that the parks are BUSY.

Genie+ is currently broken up into park-based pricing with a multi-park option if you are park hopping. Here’s a look at the prices for each option based on the date:

Prices are going to continue to fluctuate and be higher due to busy days as we get closer and closer to the holiday season. Currently, you can only buy Genie+ on the day you’re going to use it, so it may be a game-day decision on whether you want to spend the money or not. Try to have a plan for both scenarios ahead of time so you don’t have to worry about it when you’re in the parks.

  1. We went the week of October 9th through the 13th and I hadn’t been to Disney since Fast Pass. All in all, I feel like the new system nickle and dimes me for something I already paid for when I bought admission tickets. I went to Hollywood Studios with no Genie+ and most of the main rides had 2 to 3 hour!!! wait times all day and night. There are shows and other things to do, but I came away feeling really disappointed. The next day we used Genie+ at $29 each for Magic Kingdom on a day where reservations for the park were sold out. Definitely worth the money! However…why should I have to pay another $150 to actually go on rides for the day?? Either reduce the amount of people in the park, do more virtual lines?? or just add that cost to the actual tickets. I’m not sure what the best solution is but I don’t like the system other than it now being in an app versus running up to a ride to get a ticket to come back later. If your enjoyment and magic in the parks is rides, I suggest just planning to spend that extra money.
